Good Afternoon All,
I wanted to thank everyone for being so supportive of me before my THR surgery as I was had so much anxiety and depression that I had been dealing with due to being so fearful of having this surgery performed.
My surgery went extremely well as I did have a spinal with medication to totally knock me as I only remember being wheeled into surgery and waking up in recovery. The only pain that I did experience was later that evening the day of my surgery and I was given some pain medication.
Physical therapy had me an using the walker the next day and I went home that Friday September 14th. I was so apprehensive about going home due all of the hip precautions that I almost afraid of moving.
The home health Physical Therapy came out the next day to discuss my plan for therapy for the next three weeks, I also had Occupational therapy for the same time as well.
I did the exercises that I was given to do and each time the therapist came out I was given more exercises along with being shown how to go up and down the few stairs in the kitchen ( luckily everything in my house is on one level except for the basement) and get in and out of the car safely.
I then started outpatient physical therapy on October 3rd and have been going twice a week for an hour each time and have a few more visits to go. Been given more and more challenging exercises to do which I also still do at home.
Stopped using the walker about 2 weeks ago and now only using the cane to help me walk.
Have been walking outside for longer period times .
My only issues are the stiffness that I do experience in my right leg and also I am still limping slightly when walking with the cane and have been trying to walk without any assistance in the house. I am hoping that the limping will eventually stop as I would like to be able to walk like I normally did before my OA.
I was told that it just takes time due to the muscles needing to be strengthened as I do hope so as I really didn’t go through all of this not to be able to walk without limping as there are so many things that I would like to be able to do again once my recovery is complete.
Regards,
Sue
