Post op TKR

Hello everyone

18 days post op I was wondering has anyone suffered from a tingling sensation through the whole leg at bedtime Is this normal ????

Not had this myself but could be nerves.  If it gets too bad go to your gp. I think others have had amitriptyline for this which helped a lot I believe

this seems to be normal...for some reason everything gets worse in the evenings and when you get into bed.

I used to find watching TV in the evenings with my legs up on the sofa I just could not stay in one place as the leg tingled, ached, jumped etc.

It gradually gets better. personally i did not take anything for it, painkillers certainly did not seem to help and I am against swallowing lots of different tablets. It will pass...each week it will seem a little better until you can hardly remember how bad it was!

I'm almost 18 weeks post TKR, & I still get it when I'm still (i.e. bedtime, TV watching). I describe it like having barbed wire rubbed against it. Can't wait for it to go - come to that, can't wait to feel "normal" again!

HI John This seems to be the norm everyone who has this done seems to get it. Ian found a hot water bottle at night and bed time helps, he's on 31 days today, and its slowly getting better.

For me it always seems like nighttime involves a lot of tossing and turning and basically feeling uncomfortable.  I'm 5 weeks out and now am feeling some relief but almost like clockwork I wake up fidgeting and finally get up and move around, ice and elevate.  This is the one time of the day/night I take a pain killer.  It seems if I have a busy day and have walked a little too much etc this is when I feel it. My motto has become:  "If you can sleep (or nap) do it"

Pretty normal I'm afraid!  The tingling. . rather like a low electric shock . . gradually gets worse as the night progresses with me until it is sheer agony. A hot water bottle helps . so does massaging the area affected when you can stand to touch it . . My surgeon says it will go and is probably due to nerves being affected either by cutting, or by the very tight tourniquet which they put around the thigh during the operation.  I hope he is right about it going. . seven weeks and a day today!  the night si definitely the worst time with this op.
