Post op update day 10

Hi all, I'm pleased to say I feel a whole lot better the last 2 days or so. I'm sleeping better, started turning on my non op side with a thick pillow in between my legs and it feels great. Only doing it for half hour or so each time throughout the night.

i have also started walking around the house on 1 crutch a lot more and I think I can feel my THR getting stronger. Unfortunately the swelling is still rather big.

I can now also do more thing for myself, dressing, making drinks etc. Big test today will be getting showered and dried by myself.

Pain also seems to be gettin less acute so that's a result.

Going out today to buy a new bed, don't know why cos I've been banished to the spare room! lol

Anyway, best wishes to all pre and post op hippies out there.

Regards

Mark

Great news Mark . I was doing well but have increased my daily walking and now find sleeping difficult as my thigh seems to throb only at night so made doc appt for today,

A new bed is well deserved x

Thanks Jay, mine too but more towards the hip joint. It was like that for 4 years before the op so I'm thinking it's the same but this time it's because it's healing (hopefully). Best wishes Mark

Hi Mark..

I am also day 10 post op right hip. This is my 2nd op as had left replaced last year. Have been following your progress with great interest. I am pottering round house with 1 crutch but still not sleeping well..I have a constant ache in my shin but managing to sleep on a recliner chair so all is not lost ! Have you had your staples out ? I was wondering if I could shower once they are out?? Also..I am going to walk down the lane tomorrow and cannot wait....its the small things isnt it.!!!

Xxx

Hi Annie, I have my staples (26) out this coming Monday but I've got a waterproof dressing on the incision so showering has been possible. I believe you can shower after the staples have been removed as long as the skin has knitted together nicely but would ask the nurse who removes them for their advice which is what I will be doing,

Up until the last 2 nights I have also been waking at about 2.30am and going downstairs to sleep on the recliner as it was easier to stay on my back.

best wishes

Mark

Great progress Mark - onwards and upwards.

You are doing amazingly well mark. Well done you! It feels great, doesn't it, when you really start to feel things coming together.

It's a tough fight sometimes but we always get there in the end. Keep it up 😊

So good to hear that you are doing so well, I am 10 days post op but because I'm not allowed to put my operated leg on the floor for 6 weeks due to the surgeon fracturing my pelvis during the operation is am so far behind. I'm always such a doer and before I went in said to everyone you watch I'll be out walking within a week. So fed up with this.

Wow, sounds like you are doing great. I am getting a replacement on November 4. I am expecting a lot of pain and I am a nervous wreck.

Dear cookie ...

Goodness, that is terrible .... I am so sorry to hear this ... to me, this whole THR (I had 2 within 6 months) has been and is so, what is the word, ..... interesting, confrontational? for me .... asking for help, being dependent, patient, emotional, and it is not over yet !!!!!

hang in there darling ... go with it ... nothing else you can do - it sucks big time sometimes

good morning mark -

congratulations for doing such a great job -

drying your self (my self ) is limited to the upper body right now - I have a home nurse come in to help me with this - living alone I am still not realy comfortable yet to take a shower by myself, in addition to the drying off part ...

try to not overdo it today with buying the bed - no trying matrass and bending 90 degrees rule uness being helped ... or bed is high enough ...

looking forward to your next post

dear annie -

welcome to our family ... I am 15 days post-op from 2nd THR and staples were removed on day 12 ... scar was nicely healed and closed - I can take a shower but still prefer to have protection on scar as it feels sensitive -

definitely the small things, sweetheart - such big victories though that onky we here can understand -

so come back and share it with us ... it will be so helpful and encouraging .....

I'm settling for a memory foam topper! Just last night I managed to sleep in bed for a whole night, some of it on my non op side - absolutely BRILL!

great tip patricia ... it is so worth it ....

I hope so too Mark

I felt safer having my husband in the bathroom for my first few showers. We have shower over the tub so that is a bit tricky-er. He just sat on a chair and was there, just in case.
