Post Op update day 12

Hi fellow hippies, just a quick update.

Ive felt really good the last couple of days. Been having decent sleeps now that I lie on my non op side with the pillow between my legs.

Had a shower yesterday by myself, the only thing I couldn't do was dry my feet and put DVT stocking back on my op side leg.

Ihave been walking round the house on 1 crutch a lot more and can feel the movement getting better although I do still use 2 when I'm outside.

The swelling on my thigh seems to be decreasing now although I can't bend the leg very much as the thigh muscle is still very tender, tight and sore.

Meds are getting less use as well, bloody Fragmin injections are still doing my head in, only another 25 or so to do 💉.

All in all I'm feeling quite good.

Also got my 1st physio session on Tues 29th, not looking forward to that after all the comments on here. They seem to do more damage than good!

Anyway, best wishes to all pre and post op hippies,

Mark

Hi mark sounds like u doing really well . We'll done you .

Good luck with physio Tuesday! I see consultant Tuesday and can't wait to burn dvt so ks I hate them .

Have nice day

Regards Denise

Hi Mark

Yup...I am having a good day too !!! Slept on non op side last night...brill

Frags doing my head in too..but keep 'forgetting' to put op sox on so need fragmin....

This is my second hip replacement in 12 months so am trying to guage progress with other one...if anything ...this one is slightly more painful...but as I have a massive allergy to morphine snd all detivatives and cannot take most painkillers due to crohns..I think I am getting by quite well on paracetamol . 😕

Day 12 today.....going to attempt a walk outside later..

Annie

Forgot to say......staples out on Tuesday...whoop whoop 😆😆😆

We are about the same mark. I had mine done sept 11. Yes a " oh" date lol my progress is pretty much on par with you. Well done.

I think I'm about the same as you Mark. I had surgery on September 17 but haven't walked outside yet. Nor have I dared sleep on my side, or even roll there but with your encouragement I might try.

Are there any studies that show physio improves outcomes for hip replacement? I've had 2 knees done. With one I did physio but didn't with the other. I can't tell the difference. Is there any evidence that physio helps?

A question to all!! Please say we will be back to our normal self pre - operation. I was extremely athlete and I am dreaming of my high energy before my hip went south!!! 😓😓😀😀

Mark, you sound like you are doing really good. I hope my hip journey follows your path. Can I ask you how old are you? I don,t understand some of the terms you are using...we're do you live

Hi Kikeena, I slept on my non op side after day 9. I only did it a couple of times a night for about half an hour because I was a bit anxious but now I do it at least half a dozen throughout the night. If you do try it make sure it's a pretty thick pillow, 2 inches at least, I put it from my knee right up to the groin area but keep my legs straight. Once I turn back onto my back I remove the pillow and just repeat the process. It is a broken sleep but once on my side I am in the land of nod and nothing would wake me.!

Dont know of any studies but if it starts to be too painful in the physio I will just stop. We know our own bodies best and what it can/ cannot take.

Best wishes,

Mark

Scoops, we will be even better than before the Op, regards Mark

Hi Clissy, I'm 46 and from Liverpool, UK. Sorry you don't understand some things i say but if you want to, I will use different terms if you tell me the things you don't understand, best wishes

Mark

You are doing very well. Just expect to feel a bit jaded after the physio

Hi Mark. Sounds like u r doing brill. Good luck. Can I ask pre op if u had severe groin pain like on standing up or suddenly it would come on like a short stabbing pain? Many thanks.

Thanks Mark. I'll give it a go to lie on my side.

Oh louise...im same as mark and yes i had horrible groin pain. Walking standing.liftng my leg.... stabbing and it would just grab and stop me in my tracks

Where are you doing your physio?I'm going on 29th too. I hadmy first one two weeks ago and they just gave me different exercisesto do.

Hi you doing really well Mark. Can I ask all hippies out there re physio then as clearly from this site we all seem to have different advice etc.

I'm in uk and had TRHR 6 weeks ago at private hospital but as nhs patient . Only waited 3 months and hospital experience including hydrotherapy pool was brilliant. However I had 1 physio follow up appointment at 2 weeks then nothing ! And to be fair had I not worked previously in occupational therapy wouldn't have ad a clue re dressing etc. Lots people on here seem to have lots physio imput . This site is actually better than physio and certainly less painful !

Regards Denise

NHS SW. Physio leaflet at present school, told to practice pre op

physio in hospital aimed at managing at home, stairs, in and out of bed and walking properly with crutches.

also check that I was happy with leaflet exercises

did exercises at home, downloaded pocket physio app and also followed that.

not satisfied with progress as very bad limp, asked GP for physio referral. It has made a big difference

Haf one home visit physio. ... sane as hospital exercises. Got my first REAL physio next week at a local hospital

Sassybees, I am going today at 2:00..
