Hi all hippies, just a quick update. I had 4 hours sleep in bed last night, came down stairs on the recliner and had probably another 3 hours on and off so I feel much better today. Just been the park with the missus and dog for some much needed fresh air and a walk. Took about 30 mins at a snails pace but felt good being out.
Feeling a little stiff in my thigh now and a little tired but enjoyed every second of it. Taking my meds more regularly now instead of waiting until it's too late with the pain and seems to be working a bit better, can't stand the Fragmin injections though! Anyway, will keep the updates coming and once again thank you all sincerely for the info, advice and encouragement you give me.
Hi Mark I'm so pleased to hear you're feeling a bit better. IVe been following your progress closely as I'm in on Friday 25th for my RTHR. I'm really very anxious & scared now but it helps to hear that on day 6 you're sleeping better & getting out & about. I am in unbearble pain all the time & that's what's keeping me focused on Fridays op. I will be in hospital for 5 nights after my op, whereas you came home the day after your THR. I'm hoping the 5 days & nights with nurses help will speed my recovery as I'm mostly living alone. Keep up the great work you're doing & keeping taking the meds. Keep us all posted on your progress. X
Sounds like youre doing really well. That fresh air is great huh. Here in aussie we dont do the blood thinner however we do wear those sexy stockingss for 6 weeks. Keep up the good work
Great positive post Mark, hope your blood in urine sorted itself out.
I was scheduled for an op on 15th Sept, but cancelled due DVT in the other leg. Feel rather disapointed with the delay when I hear how well other post op hippies are getting along. Look forward to further updates.
I see you have a dog as your Avatar. Can't quite make out the breed, I have a Llaso Abso. Hopefully your dog helping you on your walks, and not getting under your feet.
I'm glad to hear you are feeling so much better after that wretched day 5. I'm getting a bit nervous about the aftermath, having read so many recent accounts of that awful first week. Keeping on top of the meds seems to be a frequent refrain. Must remember that.
Everything sounds like it's coming together. Yeah the first few days/weeks can be a trial but it's all towards a good outcome.
Getting out for some fresh air gives a bit of normality and the realisation that the pain discomfort does have an end, it's not forever. A little patience is needed but we all usually come through it in the end.
Hi there, please don't be scared or anxious about having the THR. It will be the best thing Youve done. Although it is going to be a struggle at first I know I will be so worth it. I can already feel how strong the actual joint is now even though the thigh and muscle hurt.
Reading the posts and getting advice from this forum really does help with staying positive and as most of the experienced hippies on here say, it usually is one day at a time, with plenty of ups and downs but small victories do make so much difference.
I went home 2 days after the op but could've stayed, I just didn't see the point if they said I was ok, although I do have the missus and daughter here to help.
Great to hear that you are up and out in the world again Mark . It makes such a difference when you get out of the house . I am 3 weeks and today have been out with only one stick . A friend picked me up,and we went to a garden centre as it is pouring with rain here . I felt quite confident so still moving upwards lol
Hi, thanks for the replies. Our Maisie is a Cairn Terrier and she has been amazing. Each night I come down stairs to sleep she follows me and jumps up onto my chest to sleep with me!
Sorry to hear about you Dvt but you'll get there in the end.
Thanks Angela, you're right about day 5. But feeling better today, just been told by the missus that I've got to do the washing up. Might start to feel a bit of pain to get out of it! Ha ha 😉
Thank you Mark. I'm just very overwhelmed by the whole thing at this stage. I thought I wouldn't ever see the day that the op was so close. I find this forum very helpful & everyone is delighted with the results eventually. I'm quite young (49) so am hoping that age will be on my side. At least I should be able to enjoy my 50th in January. Keep up the good progress Mark
I'm 46 so similar in age. The pain after the op is manageable so not too much of a problem, it's better to have weeks of manageable pain than a lifetime prior to the op. As I said to the missus, it's better to have the op and live like a 46 year old for 10-15 years with the new hip than not to have he op and live like a 80 year old for the rest of my life!
