Post op

I had my left THR on Friday. Home today feeling a little lost without all the support I've had over the last few days. I'm sur I'll be fine. No real pain, just feel stiff. Frightened the cat with my crutches! The next few days will be interesting.

I know how you felt it was scary not having a buzzer to call for help if needed!!!

My arthritis pain was gone but like you I was a bit stiff and sore from the operation.

I struggled a bit with the crutches but made the mistake of thinking I would be able to walk without them sooner than I could.

Sleep was impossible for more than an hour at a time but gradually things have improved.

im still walking like Frankenstein so still having to use 2 crutches, but I've made up my mind not to start panicking until I see the surgeon at 6 week check up regarding my walking - or lack of it!!

Good luck x

Hi Stephie,

Welcome to our hippy hoppy club!

At six months post op myself, this group has been a lovely support, and I hope we can be there for you too.

look forward to your sharing first shower, bath, first crutch free day, and low days too...

You'll find some folk are very 'go for it', others very cautious, but we need both to overcome and grow,

Warmly

A little off topic but do you have any pain at your incision or the groin area when you wake up after sleeping through the night. I'm Post Op 6 months and at times I feel like what has healed is reinjured when I over do it..What do you think, are you pain free at all times...

Loral

Thanks for your encouraging words. I know it's very early days.

Steph

Feeling better already.😊

Thank you Karen

Steph

Thank you for your kind encouraging words, it makes all the difference knowing there's people out there going through the same thing.

Steph

Hi Loral,

Um, sorry to say sheepishly, but pain free at all times: slight twinge in scar area after gym but 99% fine.

Hope yours soon the same!

Hi Stephie

It is a bit strange when you first get home isnt it as in hospital you dont have to think at all they do it all for you! But welcome home, Im sure even if you frightened the cat with your crutches they were pleased to see you and will soon get used to them.

Glad to hear you arent in too much pain which helps when you do your exercises and start to get about on your crutches. But dont forget to get plenty of rest even after nearly three weeks I still try to have a nap in bed in the afternoon.

Looking forward to hearing how you get on over the next few weeks, as has been said before it is a rollercoaster but we are here for you with support and advice.

It's not a race to get off crutches. Far better to walk properly and build up the correct muscles than to walk early and be stuck with bad walking habits. It takes 50 percent less energy to walk properly!

Welcome home Stephie.. Here is home too, home for understanding and emotional support.

It is scary without all the staff but the freedom to do what you like when you like is fabulous.

Looking forward to hearing about your journey.

Yes the hospital is very comforting and you will feel strange first few days but you will acclimatise and feel better and few weeks pain will go and you will be more mobile. x

Renee..lovely to read your posts again to other recently post op hippies....I am back on this site and now 8 weeks on ..still with concerns that on reading this forum others have..and helps so much.

We will be all linedancing soon!

Welcome home, you'll be much more relaxed in about a week. It takes time to manuver around....

I am back line dancing now!  πŸ˜„ Missed it so much as had to give it up before op as too painful. Am working my way back to the usual 3 days a week. I'm 7 1/2 weeks post-op.
