I don't know if anyone else has experienced any problems after parathyroid surgery. My surgery was 3 weeks ago. I am experiencing on and off again periods of severe weakness and nausea. My labs have all come back normal. I almost feel bedridden at times. Very unpleasant.
Are you taking calcium? have you had your levels checked?
I felt that way when my thyroid was out of walk did they only do a tsh or t3 and t4 and a antibody test?
After I had my surgery they told me to take calcium then told me to stop haven't had it checked since my surgery
2x, say they are normal
Mine was the parathyroid. They've only checked the calcium. Say it's fine. The nausea is terrible, along with debilitating weakness. I can be fine for several days, and the it hits.
2x
You said yours was normal twice? I think I need to get mine rechecked
I just went to the doctors and had my thyroid levels done. Thx for the reply
I know very little on this subject but I have a friend at work who had his parathyroid glands damaged during surgery to have his thyroid removed & he has to take calcium pills every day. There is some info I found as follows - Patients who have had all of their parathyroid glands removed or destroyed will require high doses of calcium and Vitamin D every day for the rest of their lives.
Go back to your doc/surgeon/specialist and keep nagging them until they do something to make you feel better, make a nuicance of yourself if you have to.
Good luck
Ann
Dear Laura
Sorry to hear how bad you are feeling. For me it took a few weeks for the tiredness to wear off and I took a few vitamin D tablets to boost myself but other than that I felt fine.
Did you feel like that before the op? Just wondering if it might be the after effects of the anaesthetic just working it's way out of your system?
I had one gland removed in October last year so I am just about 3 and a half months post op now.
Good luck and hope you are feeling better soon.
Angela
