Post Rezum Bleeding after 5 weeks

Trying to find some information on post Rezum procedural bleeding as the Doctor seems to think all is well. Does anyone that has had the procedure had bleeding after 6 weeks. Should I be concerned? Does anyone have any idea how long the bleeding should continue before I get concerned? What is the longest that anyone has experienced bleeding for? Is there any cause for concern for the blood getting into the bladder or the urine into the prostrate? I am also still experiencing pain the the perineal area. Should I be concerned about that?

You should be concerned. Go see another doctor.

Joseph is right. Six weeks is too long.Find another doctor. You are not on blood thinner, are you?

I had 3 or 4 days of pretty significant bleeding about 6 or 8 weeks after the procedure. And then again a week or so later. My understanding is that it is because the tissue that was ablated by the steam is sloughing off and being discharged. If your doctor thinks it is normal, I would believe that. If it goes on for a long time, then check back with the doc, otherwise, all is probably well. Good luck!

Curious about your question about blood thinners. I have been taking Eliquis or Pradaxa for 2 years for my AFib and considering Rezum as an option for my urinary retention/BPH condition. Does Rezum cause more bleeding than other procedures and is it recommended for those of us on blood thinners?

Patrick

Been three weeks for me and still a little blood when I first start urinating. Seems to be getting better. --Greg–

TheGoodSheppard,
.
Prostate surgical procedures for BPH bleed a lot, some more than others. I had blood in my pee for 4 weeks after my successful Rezum in November 2018. I was still passing dead prostate tissue 2 months after my Rezum. All is fine now.
.
In theory a GLEP or plasma button TURP seals as it removes prostate tissue so they should bleed less. A guy that I know who had a GLEP had blood in his pee for a month too. Old mono TURP bleeds a lot compared to more modern procedures.
.
Good luck to you.

thank you so much. This is the first time I have been able to find out any reliable information on why I am bleeding (about 2 table spoons full most times except when I have just gone) from someone that has actually experienced this issue. The fact that I am also passing some clots is probably a normal sign also? Did you also experienced pain (not unbearable but rather like a sting) in the perineal area for a longer than 6 week period. I have an appointment with my GP tomorrow and will discuss with him. The Specialist appointment isn’t for another 2.5 months so I have very grateful that you have given me this explanation. How long has it been for you? Was the procedure successful for you so far? I have noticed that my flow is much better and I think that I am now emptying my bladder. Thanks again Fred.

Thanks Greg - Great to know that I am not the only one and that the Doc didn’t botch the job. I was beginning to think he may have left the steam needle poking out a little and cut the urethra in half. It still stings a little after 5+ weeks. But from what I read on this web site the overall experience will be worth it. Thanks again for your info. Keep me informed how you are going.

Only a half an aspirin a day. The Specialist said I should go back on them because of my heart condition. Have had 3 stints. I am only 74 and you’d think that my body can’t believe that I am still going. Hope this all stops soon. I feel like I am going to drain all my blood dry soon.

Going to see my GP tomorrow for another opinion.

By the way I only notice a definite improvement in volume the last week. I measure with a half cup every time I go in the bathroom. I find measuring keeps me in touch with what is going on. The first time in the morning I get more blood than through out the day. This maybe because I drink 1.5 to 2 liters each day of water. I have also stayed on Ural which is suppose to encourage not getting infections and it makes it easier to drink fluid all day. I also have found sleeping without tight underwear has assisted not bleeding at nights. Don’t know why? During the day I wear pads and stick about 5-6 sheets of toilet paper around the penis to be useful. Stay in touch.

My procedure was June 28, 2019. I had 13 steam injections. I was urinating quite a bit of very red, thick blood with clots and it went on for 3 or 4 days. I did not have perineal pain, though I did have urethral burning when urinating. Your GP may not know much about this operation or what is normal,so don’t be surprised. Mine didn’t even know what it was. The procedure was pretty successful. I had a 93 gram prostate and had been in complete urinary retention for the previous 3 years and had to self-catheterize 5-6 times per day. I can’t pee like a 25 year old, but I can pee, and haven’t used a catheter in some time. Hope this helps.

Just to let you know I did not go to the Doctor as the appointment is for next Thursday. Have noticed that I am bleeding a little less but still about a tea spoon each time before the normal urine comes out. Will keep you posted.

Thought I would just report back to everyone. The bleeding stopped on week 8, the day after I went to see my GP about it. He stated that it is not unusual for a little bleeding to occur for up to three months. I was so relieved when it stopped. Thanks to all who helped me through this as I was getting very concerned. Everything is back to a normal 40 to 50 year old flow and sex life. The GP asked me if I knew what I know now would I still have the procedure. My answer was yes. And especially now that all is working fine. I do however notice that my sex drive is now quite the same and the amount of fluid has reduced but then that is probably normal for a 75 year old wishing that he was still in his 30’s. Hope all are staying safe and well during this Covet-19 thing. We here is Australia are handling it very well but unsure how we will ever get back to normal. Glad I had all this done back in 28/02/20. Not sure I would want to go into a hospital these days.

I started bleeding with some big clots about 4 weeks after… i assumed it was the prostate giving up dead tissue. It is not every time i Urinate about comes in spells. No rhyme or rhythm. I am really not that concerned yet as i was given 15 Steam Shots during my procedure. I am just going to up my water intake as much as i hate water!! LoL

My GP did not have a clue to what the Rezum Procedure is…
