Post scarf/akin

Does anyone know the reason why, nearly 4 months after my scarf/akin procedure, I have a really stiff calf muscle first thing in the morning.  I had thought that it started because of being in the horrible black boot thingy for 6 weeks and that it would wear off over time but it hasn't.

Apart from that small niggle I am really pleased with the way things have progressed.  Although painful for the first couple of months I have virtually no pain now and it only swells if I have been overdoing things.

Wishing everybody a complete and speedy recovery.

Hi Paula

Sorry to hear you are still in discomfort. If I was you I would go back to the doctor to get it checked out.

I had very bad pain in my knees due to osteoarthritis and I didn't move very much. Are you very active?

I then had very bad pain in my calf which was stiff and uncomfortable so went to see a doctor. After an ultrasound it turned out that I had a deep vein thrombosis in my calf (a blood clot). Sorry I don't want to worry you but think it's best to get it checked out.

Mine has completely gone so please don't worry. It can be treated.

Look after yourself. Hope you get relief very soon.

Hi Paula I'm nearly 8 weeks after my op and im also happy with my progress but for about the last week I've had pain in my calf first think in the morning it only lasts minutes the best way I can describe it is like cramp Im going to see my surgeon on Thursday for my final check so I will mention it to him and I'll keep you informed if he says anything about it hope the pain goes away as quick as it came

Hi Heather

Many thanks for your response.  Can I ask whether the pain in your calf dissipated after you walked around for a couple of minutes or whether it was continuous?

Regards

Paula

After my first surgery sept 17 i had the same problem. It ended when I had more attention for the way I was using my foot. When  you try to roll off your foot the right way it's possible that the pain in the calf dissapears.

Hi Mitchy

Thank you for responding.  Your symptoms sound exactly like mine.  I don't have any further appointments lined up with the surgeon, I think it's a case in this part of the country that they don't see you after the first follow up visit if there seems to be nothing wrong, so if you do ask about this the reply would be welcome.  I don't really want to bother the doctor in case it is minor as they have enough on their plates.

Hi, I have a similar problem of stiffness in my feet and calf first thing in the morning and after I have walked a lot.  I asked my doctor if I could see a physio who has given me foot exercises to do because he agreed mt foot was very stiff.  Perhaps that would help you.

Hi Paula

Yes I think my calf pain increased over a couple of days. It was getting tighter and tighter so that's why I went to the docs.

However I was also looking at the other replies and I suppose calf pain could be similar to wearing different shoes. Our feet respond to our how we walk so please seek advice. Maybe ice then heat will help dissipate the pain. Take care

Heather

Hi Carol

Thanks for the info.  I think I'll try the surgeon's sec. tomorrow to see what she suggests.  I was thinking of trying to see the physio as I've had problems in the past with Morton's Neuroma and fallen arches and she's been very helpful
