Post THR - scar management

when can I start applying scar removal products? I am 13 days po op, staples were removed 3 days ago but am too scared to touch the scar or apply anything at this stage...any thoughts?

Few pharmacist told me about Silicone NewGel+ suppose to be excellent for scar removal..

Hi

i was recommended to use Bio oil for my scar. It's a bit more expensive than most but it really does work. Even the medical staff recommended this. You dab it on and it is really soothing. My hubby does this (so I don't have to twist) twice daily after mt shower and before I go to bed as it starts to itch after awhile.  I was told as soon as dressing off you could do this. It seems to calm it down and my wound wasn't infected. I was  18 days before dressing came off. Group on has a deal on bio oil at present. By the way it's not greasy.

good luck. Hilary

Thanks Hilary, i also have bio oil but not tried it yet, i shall after my next shower

I've been putting vitamin E oil on but have just bought the silicon gel and will start applying tomorrow. I'm 3 weeks post op. I bought it on Amazon, called Dermatix

Bio oil works well for me too. as soon as my dressing came off I've been applying it twice a day. I think the main benefit is the suppleness it gives to the scar and surrounding skin so it doesn't feel tight. great product.

Hi Sura!!! Hope you are feeling better today.....Please do not put anything on your scar until all of your scabs and incision has healed entirely.  When this happens you can then apply whatever treatment you will be using.  Everyone here i see recommends bio oil and you have it so that is great, but i can tell you for just a few dollars, i have used palmers cocoa butter formula with vitamin e massage lotion for stretch marks and my scar looks wonderful!!!!!  I will send you a picture via fb private message!!!  Ginny XX

Thanks Ginny for the advice.... i thought so too better wait wait till it looks fully closed

yes please send me some nice pics

xx
