How much is the cost of Urolift? Any one knows if its available in Canada?
Hi Ken,Thanks for that info. Did you have to do all these tests? Urodynamics,
Prostate ulltra sound.
cystoscopy?
In the U.S., our insurance companies can verify if a procedure is covered, the total cost they'll pay, and then, the patient's co-pay amount...But you'll need to obtain the Procedure Code from your healthcare (urologist) provider...I don't know how things work in Canada, but a urologiost there should be able to provide a price quote..
HI BILL,I had the cysto, urodynamics ,not yet?Was their much pain with this test? Also the prostate ultra sound, did they give you a genereal anesthesia ?
thanks for the info Bill??
Frank, I just had a REZUM in mid-August and I had All the Tests you mentioned prior to me having the REZUM procedure..The Uro Docs do those to help them determine your specific prostate problems and treatment options....GOOD LUCK!...
Hey Frank. The only thing my doctor did was the cystoscopy in the office. When he could not get the camera in the prostate he know there was a problem. I had the uiro-lift done 4 weeks later. All I payed was my co pay of $200 for the surgery center. Ken
HI KEN, Is URO LIFT surgery? I thought they just put implants in to open up the prostate? No cutting?I'm i right? Was yours done in the office or the hospital?
Thanks for the info Ken>
Yes, implants, and no cutting. That's the advantage of the procedure. I'm not Ken, but I had my Urolift done in the doctor's office, under local anesthesia.
I'm in the dark about the procedure itself, bill69723. That said, if you could possibly answer a few basic questions, I'd be most appreciative. Is this procedure FDA approved? Will Medicare cover it? Does the actual size of the prostate reduce, or doesn't it matter? Sounds like you've been blessed, and I'm truly happy for you.
You asked Bill, but he hasn't responded yet. FDA approved four years ago (I had my Urolift done by the guy who did the trials for the FDA). Medicare covers it, yes. Prostate size not reduced per se, rather the inner parts (that are squeezing your urethra) are pulled away and secured (via tiny cable) to the outside of the prostate (Think: donut with a whole made larger by doing the same thing; no roto-rootering!), Two days after my op, I flew from Satl Lake back to PA; on the third day post-op, I stacked a half-cord of firewood, no problems.
FDA, yes,Medicare, yes. Size of prostate most likely will continue to increase post UL procedure. There may be brief, transient episodes of mild prostate swelling post sex or intense exercise such as running or biking hard that could temporarily cause brief, minor urethral obstruction that resolves after a few hours. Since my Urolift procedure I no longer rely on prostate supplements or Flomax. Follow up studies on UL patients now at 3 years showing little need of further interventions or most patients. I should note that at age 74 I run road and trail races and mountain bike including racing, hence I have experienced mild brief episodes of swelling but no need to do anything as it goes away quickly. Also because there is some evidence Vitamine D deficiency may contribute to continued growth of prostate, make sure you are not deficient in Vitamine D.
Frank, as noted by cartoon man, UroLift does not involve cutting in the sense of surgery. There is stapling that involves pinning the UL struts to the prostate and therefore there may be some minimal brief bleeding. But surgery, no.
I really disliked urofynamics testing. I had no sedation or anesthesia but of course the test precludes that. Just an uncomfortable exam.
Frank it is a procedure. Not a surgery. They go through the penis to the prostate and put the implants in. I had my done in a hospital and had general anesthesia Went home a hour after I got up...Ken
Good man. Glad all is well Ken
Hi Ken,Your urologist sounds like he has a lot of experience with Uro Lift. Was yours done in the office ,or at a hospital? You said you had general anesthesia. I was thinking the same thats what i want. Where is your doctor located?
thanks ,frank,
Ken did you have a lot of side effects when you went home?
i have had a cather in for 4 months, taken out once a month. My medicine is not working. Do you know if having a cather that long makes it difficullt to have the uro lift? I am going to see a new urologist Oct 4, the office says he does uro lift. I don't know how many times he has done this.i'm going to ask that question,i hope i get an honest answer.
what is the name of your urologist?
thanks frank
Hi Bill, Why didn't they give you a local anesthetic when you did the urodynamics test?
The Urodynamics procedure is only painful to me at least during cath insertion. An anesthetic jell was used but did nothing for me. What was uncomfortable to me was after they filled my bladder to near capacity then ask me to urininate with the cath still in. It wasn't painful, but just awkward, I didn't feel I was able to come anywhere close to full bladder evacuation because of the urine coming not out of the cath but outside the cath. I assume no anesthetic is used as they don't want to alter your receptors used in urination. As I noted above a mild anesthetic jell was used for cath insertion but it did nothing to mitigate for me the pain especially when pushing the cath by the urethral obstruction caused by my swollen prostate.
Hi Bill, Thanks for that info.Do You have urine rentention? I do.How long was the procedure? i"m not looking forward to this?
thanks,
