Just took the at home spermcheck vasectomy test and found blood in semen, cant imagine that's good 9 weeks out.
If you've got the pain you describe now, what ever you do won't make it better.
I'm over 3 years down this and my records just say severe post vasectomy complications. The doctors have accepted it but there is no acceptable treatment. Pain drugs that mong you out and give you ED aren't good.
Anti biotic treatment is a joke. Urology offered me a three month course but the wee test showed no infection. Needless to say they accepted it. Had epdidymectomy and steroid injections into balls. None of it works.
Sorry you've been so badly mislead.
I am wishing I had found more info on this prior to my vasectomy. Mine was 2 months ago and lately my right testicle has started aching more and more around the poles. It's tolerable for the most part, but becomes more painful when it's riding higher so to speak. Sex thankfully hasn't been an issue so far. I called the urologist's office today and have an appointment in 2 weeks. Praying this isn't permanent. I'm so sorry (and scared) to read these messages here. Like everyone else the Dr did not describe any of these long term complications.
I am going on vacation on Monday. Has anyone had any additional discomfort from flying?
Sadly i have experienced pain when flying. First time I didn't think much of it but flights after that time were painful. Worst was a long haul back from India.
Outbound just ached deeply but in return leg was hell and oramorph was in hold luggage.
Can only put it down to change in pressure.
However that doesn't mean you'll be affected
Thank you for the feedback. Fingers crossed. I'm holding out lots of hope this will fade. It's not the first time I've had pain/tenderness for a few days in that testicle even since before the vasectomy so it could very well be unrelated. Still, I probably won't sleep well tonight thinking about it.
Pain could be down to many things so don't worry yourself stupid over it. Sounds like you've got a holiday coming up. Focus on that and how you're going to enjoy it.
Obviously if the pain drags on after your appointment then revisit Dr and push for something to be done.
Don't forget as well the more you worry about something the more it seems to play up simply because you're aware of it.
Hopefully vacation will give you breathing space as well as having a great time
I'm on Day 5. I wish I would have done more research then just going in and doing it. Reading all these stories. I fear I will be in pain the rest of my life. I had to call into work twice now. It hurts to stand. Today was better. Mild pain. Little discomfort. But at the top of my scrotum is where the most pressure is. I hope I can make it thru this just like before. I'm already regretting my choice and wish my GP would have told me about all the risks. Reading these stories and freaking myself out probably doesn't help. I can't eat. No appetite. My pain is now more of a discomfort. I took a walk today. Hopefully I'll be fine. When did you realize you at PVP? How often does PVP affect people? I really hope I don't get it. I want my life back and these last 5 days have been hard for me. I wish I could go back in time and walk out of the damn office.
It's too early yet. I was in a mess for a month and it was about 3 months before I saw a Urologist and he said PVPS. My GP denied it existed as did the GP doing the op.
It's too early yet and I would give it a bit longer but if pain or the wound doesn't heal it could be infection.
Don't worry needlessly its way to too early to say yet what it is. Could infection or any other reason.
Drs tend to deny or downplay the risk from this but can affect up to 30%+
Took ages before Dr admitted what it could be and then sweet nothing they could do.
Seriously though do not worry, 5 days post snip is still well within pain from procedure and well within infection periods.
Just keep up with pain relief and take it really easy for s while
Thank you for the quick response. I guess looking at all the horror stories isn't helping haha. I'd rate the pain actually only a 1-2. More or less pressure at the top of my scrotum. It has gone down every day. I scared for the first time having an ejaculation. Both my uncles had it done. We're back to work in 3 days and have been pain free one for 18 years and the other for 8. They recommended it to me. Same with my Gpa who did it 20 plus years ago. So I could just be a worry wart. I just fear for my quality of life going down. I'm only 26. I have 3 kids. And my wife and I knew we wanted to be done. So this seemed like the best route. 5 days in. 1-2 pain still. I'm probably being a big baby compared to what you had to deal with. 30% is huge. Why would they not warn us?? I'm hoping for a great recovery and going back to my normal life soon.
Now I am 9 days Post. I can almost walk normal. Barely any pain today. I get shooting pains upper scrotum. Especially when laying down and with ice on it. Pretty weird. I still havnt ejaculated. Scared to do that. When will this pain go away? Did I screw myself? Just want to heal fast. Those shooting pains are about a 3-4 and last 2-5 seconds. Will it hurt to ejaculate the first time?? So nervous for that. Wish I could have went back and not tried to fix something that wasn't broken!!
Still early days yet. I know they say can be back to work in 3 to 4 days etc and for some that will be the case. For others it can take a good while longer.
So I'd still say don't worry needlessly.
As for ejaculation and will it hurt....only one way to find out as impossible to predict.
I didn't feel like trying for a while due to pain levels and when I did it made me cry. Again though that was me....you've read up on issues post procedure and are now trying to fill in blanks with nightmare scenarios you've read. Not doing yourself any favours sadly.
You're still within normal healing times, it's a very very sensitive area packed with nerves and Pain receptors and it's taken a battering with the vasectomy. Just give yourself time to heal and I'm sure and hopeful you'll be fine
Day 13. Don't know if you care or not haha but thought I'd check in. I have almost no pain. Yesterday I felt 100%. Still took it easy. Today how ever and this is a first. My testys are tender to touch. Hurt when I walk again. Still wearing jock. I also now have very red and raw sack. Feels like leather. My surgery site is almost all healed and I'm hoping it's not jock itch or an infection. I did ejaculate 2 days ago. That was interesting site. But felt the same and no pain. Now from my understanding. PVPS can start weeks. Months. Years afterwards? The hell is that! When did you know you had it? Like right away? Or did yours come on later? I know I'm in the normal healing time still. Man though wish I could stay 100% with out this tenderness. I hope you have gotten better. Keep healing sir and I wish you luck. I am truely sorry about your situation. No offense but I hope I make it out of this normal haha. Thanks again
Hi Devin227
Yep great to hear back how people are getting on.
It is great to hear things appear to be on the up for you, almost no pian is wonderful news as is the 100%.
A new onset of pain in testicles though isn't so great news. I'd get to GP to get that checked out. Possibly just part of healing process (although a bit late in day) or possibly a mild infection of epididymus. Only way to find out is to get it checked out by Dr.
Your understanding is correct PVPS can appear at any point up to 10 years from date of surgery. Further down the line it can easily be missed by GP's as given vasectomy was so far back it would not be an associative question.
Withn first week pain started heading north instead of south so I guessed something was wrong and pain kept going up badly over next few months, to point where it was crippling and in that time becuase they were so hooked up on it being impossible for it to be PVPS they would not give decent pain relief.
Came to a head in Feb 2013 when I went private and they confirmed PVPS in both sides, 3 months after vasectomy.
Sadly I won't get better, they have not been able to treat with pain relief or further surgery. Morphine only just keeps a lid on it and there is more breakthrough pain now than ever. They are, after 3 yrs, getting me off morphine by taking dose down and that is causing hell with level of pain, withdrawal and fatigue levels. The next thing they want to try is methadone not for any other reason than it is a very good pain killer in its own right. I've lost count over the amount of meds and procedures they have tried over last 3 years...each causing side effects and each causing an uplift in pain when stopped to go on to new meds.
Life is seriously not worth living, I don't live any more I just exist from day to day with constant pain. No offence taken lol but this is my normal now.
However you ARE getting better and the signs, from what you say, are really great and positive. Just get to GP and get that redness and tenderness sorted...don't forget as I have said before it is a very tender area at best of times and all surgery does carry risk of infection etc...I wouldn't worry at all at this point if I were you. Get to Dr and get on and enjoy life.
cheers

Hi
y name is Kirk I have pain on my left side after a vastectomy do you have any suggestions.
Hey again. 20 days post op. I have 0 pain now. I do how ever have discomfort behind my right testicle. It actually feels like a hard vas deferen. Or some other string. My right testical rides high to. Looks funny. My sack is still red and the hairs are growing back and that has iratation. When I walk my right side has discomfort. Not sure if it's the redness or what. But my sack is hard where that hard string feeing thing is. Has anyone got burnt from iodine? I shaved the day off and when they applied that man did it burn. My sack is dry and looks like leather now. But so far so good. I did attempt to have sex. Had a shooting pain in my left top scrotum but I have jerked it 3 times and no pain. Blood in the samen. But that's it. Hoping for a good recovery. Talk to you soon.
I am surprised that your docs did do a blood test to identify the infection before they began antibiotics! In the US, they usually won't write a script without a test which shows the infection type. Antibiotics HAVE side effects.
So I am one of the lucky one's to have the continuation of "slight discomfort." I should have looked further into this process or been closer informed about the potential complications. I was left with 4 incision sites, 1 on the left side of the scrotum and 3 on the right. Reason being, or so I was being told was that my vas was located so much deeper on the right that it had to searched out. This caused more trauma to the right testi and left it swollen to the size of an average hass avocado for easily 3 months along with the swelling and tightness of the spermatic cord. Near 5 months later all the swelling has ceased yet I am in constant pain; on a good day I simply suffer from extra tenderness to the area, while on bad days such as today I feel as my sack is being yanked (not in a good way) and my testis squeezed to a point of almost bursting. As one of the previous comments exclaimed, my right testi too does sit quite high now. Not simply sitting high and not hanging at all ,but it feels hard also. I do not notice any activities that aid in relieving the "discomfort," other than constantly readjusting myself as to not sit on my sack or have any unnecessary friction down there. I have attempted to speak with other urologist about the matter yet none care to speak on it and the urologist that performed the operation simplt seemed to dismiss my concerns. I feel as though others do not want a part in assisting me as perhaps my operation was a botched one.
How does one join this discussion group. I have tried to send a post because i am also suffering from PVPS and am desperately trying to find if anyone who has discovered a truely great surgeon who can correct this awful problem and i cant even get a post up. Now this one will go up and ill seem like an ass most likely. But the people on this board seem to have the same symptoms that i am having and i would dearly like to talk to some people that have the same problem. So if this gets posted ... I'm just trying to figure out why my posts are not being posted ... And Sorry for the rambling. But i have been living with PVPS for over a decade and it got worse when i tried to have a reversal done . So if anyone knows of a truely gifted surgeon who lives in the Central California area ...or anywhere for that matter please let me know. Thank you
I had mine reversed in July. The right side is 90% better, the left side is maybe 50% better. I flew across the country to the reversal clinic and had Dr. Baldwin do the procedure. He was great. I may go back to him later to redo the left side if that doesn't improve.
