Post-YAG Problem - Glint in Center of Vision

I've just had YAG on one eye post-cataract surgery (Crystalens). I was diagnosed with PCO almost immediately after the IOL implact. Vision was good prior to YAG, except for halos and other night-vision issues. Now I'm seeing what seems like a small amount of reflected light or glint in the center of my vision, always in the same location. It's intermittent, but very distracting. Doctor says there is no damage visible anywhere and he's stumped. I read about epiretinal gliosis after my last visit - do you think the doctor would have seen that during a pretty thorough exam (with dilation)? Appreciate your thoughts very much.

I wonder if it could be positive dysphotopsia (PD)? I don’t totally understand it, but it seems that light can reflect off the IOL edge, with sharp square edge designs being the most susceptible to it. I have read that this effect can go away over time as you get some posterior capsule opacification (PCO). It seems to reduce the reflection issue. Perhaps in your case when the YAG process removed the PCO, it caused the PD effect to become more visible. The thought would be that over time the PCO may mask it again?

I’m sorry for the problem you’re having . I wonder if the IOL was scratched, although it seems that it could be detected .

I’m very interested to know if the Yag corrected the halos, glare, and night vision?

Hi GaryE - is Epiretinal gliosis same as epiretinal membrane? I was diagnosed with that a few days ago. I started noticing blurry vision a few months ago and thought it was pco. If same as what I have it it is diagnosed through having a OCT scan. scan was dine at my optometrist who is referring me to a retina specialist.

I haven’t tested thoroughly yet, but I think there has been a small improvement in night vision. Will let you know.

Thanks! The glare and halos started almost immediately after surgery so I’ve been sceptical about PCO forming so quickly. But it sounds like yours did. could your doctor see the PCO ?

Yes, the doctors who examined me saw the PCO; no hesitation in that diagnosis. Apparently, the lens that was YAG’ed is now perfectly clear while the other has PCO residue on it.

Yes will update as I learn things. I have been referred to a retina specialist.
