I had my rectocele repair done in march and havent looked back :D , there was hardley any pain after op they stick apain relief pessarie up your bum while in theatre, the drip catheter and vag packageing come out day after op and you can take a shower which is so refreshing. As long as you are eating drinking and weeing pooing and no sick they should let you go home on day three :D The only real pain i felt was on day 3 i got really bad wind and gut spasms  but the nurse gave me peppermint water and a pesserie to make me poo the releif was instant and 4 hours later i was tucked up under the duvet at home :D
When you get home take it easy i was falling asleep alot for a couple of weeks  and my legs felt like mush but each week you feel better absolutley do no heavy lifting for 6 weeks i had 3 months off work because my job is manual, hope this helps you good luck Hetty
Thank you Hetty for telling me about your experience, it helped me tremendously.
My op went well and I also was out at day three. The only addtional thing I would add is to ensure that once home, people who have undergone this op should be careful not to get constipated. I did and had a very difficult and painful time for a number of days. My advice is plenty of fluids, fruit juices and lactulose to keep the poo soft!!
My only concern now is having sex again. :? Can you give any advice?
glad your op went well ive been checking to see how you got on so very happy to see your post :D I didnt mention the constipation bit as the the the doctor should have told you about that before discharging you and you should have got a bottle of latolose to take home with you :?
Anyway the sex bit  we waited six weeks before trying and when we did we over did the lubricating gell what a mess  after a quick clean up and a tentertive start things were great in fact better than ever 8) no pain but lots of feeling which i never used to get before we are like rabbits now no
Since my last post i have been diagnosed with a cystocele which my doctor said is mild at the moment  im having pysiotherepy and on a diet to try and correct it without surgery and to try and prevent the rectocele recurring, hope this has been helpfull keep in touch
Will definately wait until the 6 weeks :!: Hope I feel the same way :!:
Sorry to hear about your cystocele I hope your physiotherapy and diet goes well. I joined Rosemary Conley some months before the operation and in conjunction with the diet and exercise I lost 2 stone. I really would recommend it.
All the best and thanks for the communication. It does help to share ones fears and concerns

Hello lady's, I'm having this op at the end of the month and I'm slightly concerned as I'm a single mum of 3 including a lively 2 year old, so I won't be able to go for a nap in the day and also won't be able to avoid lifting my 2 stone daughter occasionally. As a few of you have had this op do you think I will be ok?
Hi Julzy8, I had a slightly different op to yours and didnt have any stiches on the outside but it definitely sounds like your stitches have come out and would most definitely see your doctor ASAP as it may be at risk of infection now or the hole to get bigger, will probably need restiching.
Thanks angela38 I'll call my gynaecologist first thing tomorrow. I don't know how they cold have come out though - its a bit of a mystery. I hope he can sort it easily because it looks a mess down there.
Spoke to gynaecologist secretary today and booked in for Monday. Can someone tell me if I can have a lavender salt bath at 10 days post op and also when I can drive?
Hello, all. I have been following this thread regarding posterior repairs and have noted some considerable differences between the UK and the US on postoperative care, mainly the postsurgical hospital stay. I'm 43 and had a rectocele that required surgical treatment. I had surgery 4 days ago on an outpatient basis. As soon as I woke up and my vital signs were good, I was released home. Initially, I felt great. I felt so great that I went to the bathroom without any assistance where I promptly blacked out and broke through the wall as I fell to the floor (hitting my head in the process). That would be the first of two total blackouts and two separate convulsions. I did have significant bleeding which may have caused the blackout. A possible concussion may have contributed to the convulsions ( which I have never before experienced). I have been able to pass both urine and BMs without pain. It was odd not having to splint for a BM after dealing with this for 7 years, since the birth of my last and largest child. I did experience what I suspect to have been rectal spasms for the first two days that were very uncomfortable. Other than that, pain has been very manageable without narcotics. I also had a perineal repair and these are the stitches I feel the most. I believe this surgery was the right choice for me and look forward to normal bathroom experiences for the first time in a long while.
Hi, I had a Laproscopic Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy and Rectocele Repair 3 weeks ago and was in hospital for 6 days including a day before the op. The recovery from the Hysterectomy so far is very good and progressing well. I am however, in a lot of discomfort from the Repair which was done vaginally. There are so many stitches there I feel like I am sitting on barbed wire all the time. My post op appointment is 6th January and cannot come quick enough. I am hoping though there will be some improvement with the discomfort before then. As for Sex, I couldn't even imagine it with the amount of pain and throbbing going on down there. I have read that the recovery can take up to 12 weeks = hope not.
I had a rectocele almost 10 weeks ago. I'm still having significant rectal pain. My dr seemed surprised by this at my 6 week checkup. It sounds like a lot of women have pain for a long time. . I wasn't allowed to lift more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks and no sex for 6 weeks. I'm praying this pain is not something I'll be forced to live with. I'm considering going to a colorectal surgeon for evaluation.
Hi Terri, I had a posterior repair and tvt 14 days ago. At the end of the first week the discharge was so slight that I was using only panty liners, then the bright red bleeding stated. The GP gave me antibiotics for a bladder infection, and the bleeding has been spasmodic with abdominal discomfort and some clots. Tomorrow is the last day of the antibiotics, so planning to phone the GP for advice/reassurance. I don't think this bleeding is normal, but she did say it could be brought on by increased activity as the op pain eases. I haven't walked further than 20 metres and am so determined to make this work I haven't lifted anything heavier than a cup of tea.
Just wish for a bit more information and what to expect.
