Posterior Repair - tailbone pain

I am 8 days post op from having a posterior repair and I have been recovering well. The pain has been pretty good until yesterday. Now I am worried I have done something. The pain is like a burning sensation in my tailbone and it’s uncomfortable to sit. I forgot myself yesterday and squatted down 😳 so worried I have done something. Just wondering if anyone else experienced the pain getting worse the second week? Thanks!

Yes, i had a vagina, bowel and bladder lift, the second week was worse than the first

That seems to be pretty normal from my experience. I was worried a few times my self. I am 8 weeks post op and am still somewhat uncomfortable, doing daily routine but was not released to go back to work after my appt yesterday. I now  being sent to physical therapy.  I still have a burning sensation from time to time but it’s bearable. You will feel

Better every week. Just rest and take it easy. Don’t do anything you don’t have to!!!!

Hi Sandy24305,

Yes as your anaesthesia wears off seems more pain sets in. My dr said that much of the tailbone pain was from the position I was in during the surgery with my  legs up in those stirrups, in my case 2 hours for a posterior and anterior repair.  Truthfully, even at 8 weeks post op, I still have some tailbone and pain in the rectum area when sitting on a hard surface.  I have a child’s pillow in a quilted cloth bag and still take wherever I go. The handle on the bag makes it handy carrying the pillow and it is not so obvious that I am sitting on a pillow. Haha

I will admit that  recovery is much longer than I anticipated but do feel like at 8 weeks I  am getting there... but still not 100% healed. Hang in there! I do think this forum will help you; it sure helped me.

Yes bad tailbone pain. Felt like I was kicked by a horse. Normal

Completely normal, my dear. I am 5 weeks post-op, still having intermittent tailbone pain. I think at first it was from the surgical position, and now it's related to how I sit to keep from putting pressure on my stitched bits. In my case, I'm back at work sitting all day, so that definitely contributes. The pain seems to change every few days, too, you get relief from one nagging pain and a new one develops. I guess this is as the internal swelling goes down and different tissues heal. Try to lie down as much as possible

Hi Michelle, I am also having problems with my bottom. I had hysterectomy and rectocele repair surgery 5 weeks ago. I have discomfort inside my anus and my whole butt area is sore. Please let me know how you are feeling now?
