Hi all,
New to this site. I am 57 and in need of a THR. I am interested in which procedure you had and if you are happy with results, or wish you had done the other. I live an active lifestyle and am not overweight.
Thanks!
Kristen

I am extemely active and in pretty good shape, I had my first THR posterior in Jan 2013 and it was a great success. I returned to work after 7 wks, and my job has a lot of bending and lifting.
I had my other hip done 7/25/16 (posterior), I expect to be back playing most of my sports at the end of October. I was 53 for my 1st THR and I am 56 now.
Good Luck
HI Kristen I am 56 today, and had both hips replaced, I was very active at 40 and 45 I slowed down, but the damage was done, my hips wore out, but I feel I will never do Karate again, and running ...out of the question...but I can get about almost like normal and pretty much pain free, we are all different, depends how it goes for you.
Keep in touch.
Ian.
Hi Kirsten I had my THR two weeks today , first few days I was really down and couldn't do a lot , I have no bruising my scar is healing really well . And I'm now on one crutch . hi kristen,
welcome to this wonderful forum -
I had 2 THR surgeries within 6 months, both posterior approach as my surgeon does not perform anterior -
I am happy with the result -
Where are you in the process? Have you seen an orthopedic surgeon yet -
I remember that there are members on this forum who had both - Hopefully they will read this discussion and respond.
Love to know more about you...
big warm hug
renee

it's worth going though 😅😄
I had posterior on both hips this year amazing results very happy :-) xx
Hi Kristen, I had a posterior six weeks ago. Brilliant. Some swelling some bruising but really straight forward. I was walking un aided after 4 weeks pain free.
Hi Kristen,
I've had both hips replaced using the anterior procedure. The first one last December and the second four weeks ago.
I have been able to walk unaided indoors for two weeks and have just done my second day outside walking unaided for a kilometre each time.
I have no operation pain, just a bit of muscle ache after a while but I don't need painkillers.
I can sleep on either side and unlike the posterior approaches amongst us, don't need a special toilet seat.
Obviously I can't give any comparison between the two procedures and a lot depends on age, weight, activity etc. I am 67 years old, 5'7" tall and 64 kilos, and am moderately active.
I am very happy with my results and would do the same again if I had to.
Personally, the outcome of a good posterior beats a bad anterior any day.
I don't really care exactly where the scar is, or (to some extent) how long it takes to recover. What matters to me is that it is done well and that I can recover from the previous painful state.
Sadly, I had a bad posterior - I am waiting to see my new surgeon in a couple of months to see what the future holds for me.

Happy birthday Ian! Thanks for your feedback. Did you have posterior or anterior. Also cement or cement less? Looking forward to getting back to my golf game.
Kristen
Thanks Rich,
Did you do cement or cement less? Glad to hear the positive feedback. May your recuperation continue!
Kristen
Thanks Jo,
I know I need to do this. It was seeing Lara Spencer, at 47, that encouraged me that quality of life is more important than the age factor. What are the nerve complications?
WOW!
Thanks Renee, I've done PT and am scheduled to meet with my Surgeon next week. My plan is to do this at the beginning of 2017, when I know I have no commitments or pressure on my rehab.
Did you do a cemented THR or cement less?
Kristen
Thanks Anna, glad to hear your surgery went well and you are making progress in your recuperation!
Thanks Vanessa!
Thanks for the good news report Nige!
Good to hear since I am a side sleeper. It is a lot to consider.
Hi Graham,
Sorry to hear your surgery didn't go well.
I, too, don't care about the scar location....just want to make certain the procedure goes well. The positive of the Internet is that I found this forum, the negative is that I find so much conflicting info regarding the 2 procedures...obviously each side presenting their best case. I don't want one leg to be shorter than the other, or deal with major muscle and nerve issues.
Good luck with your next appointment.
Kristen
