PPI dilemma - opinions please

I'm a middle-aged man and for a few years have been getting some heartburn, sore throat and burning ears. I had a endoscopy last year and they told me it was normal. I think my symptoms are probably quite mild compared to a lot of you, but nevertheless, despite diet changes, raising bed, not eating late etc., they won't go away.

I'd been on 20mg Omeprazole for about 6 months but they asked me to stop (in order to do an H. Pylori test - negative). So for about the last month I've been managing with Zantac, antacids and Gaviscon Advance. But I am still getting more symptoms (some tiny bit of pain most days) than when I was on Omeprazole.

So, my question is, which is the greater risk. The risk of not taking the PPI and experiencing these mild but almost daily bits of heartburn, or the risk of heart disease (runs in my family) and bone problems etc.

Opinions please!

Sir

as a middle age male you must know that your body changes every seven years so you must aclimatise.

first do not get stressed , second monitor every day of eating, third do not take indigestion medicine while on medicine from the GP ..

you must adjust your eating these are the NO  food , fried food, dairy products , bread , alchahol  wine spirits , milk ,  chocolate ,  food too eat  fresh veg, grilled fish, grill meat make sure it isn't grilling in fat , herb tea chamomile or other herb teas , pineapple fresh not in tins with juice .

and always listen to your GP

i wish you well.

Acid reflux can do significant damage to your oesophagus so its best to get it under control as the PPI also heals as well. I suspect you may need a higher dose. e.g. 15mg is normal for Lanzoprozole but I take 30mg

I too have done all the things you mention as I still get problems for a few days. My GP also gives me 15mg tablets so I can take an extra one during the day if I need it, which I do for a day or two to settle it down.

I have signifcant heart disease in my family, but I worry way more about the reflux than I do the heart condition.

Hi there,

Have you tried to stop drinking any acidity or fizzy drink. Elimination diet as well can help a little bit. Get well soon.

Cheers.
