PPI, which works, for LPR?

I was diagnosed with laryngopharyngeal reflux in 2013 and, while the first year was bad, I've managed pretty well since then just with Gaviscon Advance when I've had a small flare-up.  However, I'm under a lot of stress at the moment - my husband has just been diagnosed with a serious illness - and the reflux has got a great deal worse.  My Adam's apple is tender, my oesophagus is burning, I have slight hoarseness and I'm constantly having to clear my throat.  This has been going on for two weeks and is beginning to make me feel very unwell.

Back in 2013 I tried Lansoprazole and Ranitidine for four months, but it didn't seem to make any difference and it was only watching my diet and time that helped.

I've managed to get a GP appointment for tomorrow.  Would it be worth going back onto a PPI, maybe a different one?

With  Ranitidine do u get pain down each side with the amount of coughing ? as I’ve got silent reflux it’s bad when I lay down or even get up from bed

Yes, it didn't seem to make much difference, Annie, and I was still coughing.

PPIs manage symptoms, not the cause.  LPR is serious.  I had it and I resolved it with a Nissen fundiplication.  Since then, no PPIs, no antiacids, no reflux, no secondary effects. Pefect.  I have to be careful to chew my food well as the esophagous is slightly constricted, but othern than that, I got my life back.

One problem of course is health insurance. In the US, given that the health industry's main goal is to make lots of money, rather than cure people, a funiplication can cost upwards of $50k. I had mine done in Spain for $6k.  Best decision I ever made.
