So Dr has given me pranapol to take 40 mg does any 1 else take these what are they like and how did you react the first few weeks I have seen some reviews on them some positive but some negative but these are the lowest dose I can take I want to be the old me and kick anxiety in the nuds I want it over with
I am on 80mg 2x daily. When you first go on them they can make you feel a little weird. A bit light headed, especially if you stand up too fast after laying down, just generally a little spaced out.. but I got used to them very quickly and the symptoms were mostly gone by day 7 and completely gone by day 14. You are on a low dose so hopefully any side effects you get (if any) will be mild.
The thing is, nobody can predict how your body will react to it, so reviews aren't realy helpful in the cases of medications. How you react will depend entirely on you, your body chemistry, other medications you are on and your sensitivity to it. It is just a waiting game I am afraid.
Whatever you do though, DON'T READ THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS LIST. It is a good idea never to read the side effect list so you don't end up getting fake side effects. The best thing to do is to go on them for a few days, then if you are getting any symptoms have a quick skim to see if they are listed. You have no idea how many people list side effects to me in the exact order they are written on the patient information leaflet without even realising they are doing it lol. It isn't a concious choice, you will just be looking out for certain signs of things and notice every normal twinge your body makes.
Let us know how you get on with it. If you find you are getting tired or light headed, it might be worth taking the tablet before bed. xx
Thank you for your quick reply , yeha I never read symptoms I get terrified of what can happen but ill try them to see what I'm like can I come off them any time or will I have to come off them by decreasing the does
You can come off them any time, however it isn't a good idea to do so without speaking to your doctor. If your dose ever gets increased you may well need to lower the dose. As with any prescribed medication though, it should be done under a doctors supervision.

Propanolol (Beta Blockers) when used for anxiety, decrease your physical symptoms e.g. shaking, fast pulse, high blood pressure - it makes you feel a bit more calm physically, which is great - but it doesn't 'fix' anxiety unfortunately. I am on 120mg daily, they really help to get you feeling more relaxed, I feel a bit more 'normal' when using them as people don't comment on my constant tremors. Speak to your GP about what can be offered if you're interested but therapy is needed to help aid anxiety as well.
Hi Paul- I'm also on these. They really helped me, my heart rate was always so fast and it helped slow it down and also just made me more calm, although now when I don't take them I panic so I'm currently on the waiting list for CBT
I don't have a clue what they do yet I'm also scared of taking meds what helped me was the gym but it closed down now it's open again I can go back but it's getting the money to get a membership
I have anxiety but some times I don't think I have because of the good days then it comes back then I think something I'd realy wrong with me at this moment in time I have a pain on side of my head did have chest pain and did feel sick that's all in 1 day I can change and it can last longer always thinking somthing is up
That's the same with me, my anxiety in my eyes isn't as bad as others like some days I will be absolutely fine, and others I will have breathlessness/panic attacks/fast heart rate. Some days I think my heart is fine then others it's beating out of my chest and I'm terrified something is wrong with it. My health anxiety use to be a lot worse as I always googled my symptoms- but I've stopped myself doing that and it's now 100 times better apart from the occasional thing!
Yeah same here I use to be very bad last Xmas I stayed in bed due to anxiety mega migraine all this what's in our heads can make us feel cr#* it's a mystery how our brain can make us feel like that it's bonkers
Hi, you are not on a very high dose, and if you've never been on them before this level should help with the anxiety. I have taken this in the past. Its very safe.
Thank you , I just want my anxiety down to a level I can handle I just carnt do with it any more like I said I feel I don't have anxiety I feel as there is somthing actually wrong with me but that must be anxiety playing up
Hi Paul. I take 40mg propranolol each day too which has helped me in not being so obsessive on what my heart rate is. I started them back in May to take when needed but after speaking to others on here in the Propranolol group I now take one each day I was constantly taking my bp and hr up to 20 times a day up to a month ago and would get worked up if my hr went over 100bpm. Haven't had any new side effects from taking them to what I already have but still get anxious. I am anxious at this very moment for no reason as I am feeling very bloated and restless . This is when I tend to come on here for reasurance but am constantly aware that things don't feel normal now so my mind goes into overdrive analysing if it was someting I ate that makes me so uncomfortable. Infact I probably am not making much sense as it affects my concentration too. lol
