Don't know if this has happened to anyone else, l had my pre assessment checks at hospital yesterday everything was great however when l had an ECG l was told l need to see a doctor as the readings need explaing to me.
The upshot being l have slight angina! I have to see the cheif anaesthetist next week who will decide if l can go ahead without treatment or if l need to see a Cardiologist for treatment before having operation? I'm so upset and worried , anyone else got angina and had the op?please any advice
This happened to me but my Echo was clear but nobody explained why I needed it! My friend has angina and she had a knee replacement so I can't see there being a problem thay will just keep a careful eye on you. I would try not to worry as you will receive the treatment you need x
Oh really! Well thats reassuring thanks l will try
You might need to see a cardiologist and it might affect the type of anaesthetic they use. Try not to worry as this will make any angina worse.
One of my neighbours has had angina ever since I moved here over 30 years ago and she is in her 90s and has had surgery!
Yes they did mentiondl'd need to see a Cardiologist at some point so what you say makes sense if its to do with my anaesthetic.
thanks, l'm trying to keep calm and focused
Hello..
In most cases this is a common protocol in patients with angina for several reasons. This is the primary reason for pre-op exams to be aware of any patient medical history in order to prepare the staff ahead...especially the anesthesiologist.
During surgery angina patients can be given supplemental oxygen and can be premedicated with nitroglycerin (if the patient is extremely pron to angina). UR body is under stress in surgery, this is for UR protection.
Local anesthesia is the best means of limiting patient anxiety for any surgerical proceedure and patient history is important as a precaution , for UR protection.
Taking the liberty to focus on the level of angina before surgery is the norm for any surgical proceedure.
My symptoms of angina has never been a serious issue in my experiences with surgery. It's always a good thing to know ahead of time rather than during surgery.
Thank you for the explanation
its up to the aneatatist on how bad your angina is he as to take into consideration wether to send you to see a cardiolologist before you have the op or take it into his own hands and still do it or wait wich could delay the op till you have seen the dr or do it if you didn't no you had this then i asume it must be stable if you haven't had to take any drugs they have to cover themselves and this is why he wants you back he dose need to cover himself on this its all down to blood cot reason's.
i have angina lots of heart troubles i had to go back like you he will just explain the complications to you as he did me but the hospital was aware of my heart problems i still got my op done even though they was aware i was so frightened myself of mine packing up but when i did go for the op i had to be assured he could get me through it i had an hip revison the second time which is worse than just a normal straight forward hip replacement
when they send you to see the cardio he will report back to your surgon how bad it is then they will take more special care with you and have everything in place for you such as i had to go into HDU for 2 days.
your main concern is not to get too stressed out and they monitor your blood pressure in thearte to make sure it dosent drop too low this is were the aneathatist would stop the op till they can bring it back up.
but i can tell you they won't risk giving you genral anesetic you are better of anyway without it and take the epidural and the one were they sedate you you can hear whats going of but i was alsleep most of the time witch is best then you don't tend to panic.
i have had two ops for the same hip in 7 months and got through both of them only the last one was the worst only because it took longer as i had to have an hip revison and the first one wasen't a succes so i was put into HDU so they could monitor me better than putting me straight onto the ward.but please don't let this put you of.
im sure you will get through yours if this is your first good luck and keep us posted.
christime
if you are in not in a lot of pain and need the hip sorting out then do not worry they will just hold out till they get the results from the cardio first .
hi margih
forgot to say my first op was only half an hip replacement but still as bad but you don't loose as much blood thats what i was told by my surgon as an hip revison if you have any other complaints they still have to be all took into concideration too for your onwn safty and there own peputation so they are playing safe with you as any one still can get blood clots they need to be safe than sorry .good luck
Thats fantastic thankyou for replying and explaining this to me.
l feel alot better about this now cheers
