hi been told I need a full hip replacement but because my appointment was a late one the pre- assessment was not doing any more patients that day dos anyone know just how long you are left waiting before you are sent for they did not tell me how long I would be xx

It really all depends. For my THR i waited 4 months to get my pre op date. For my upcoming surgery it was less than a week xx

My pre assessment was done 2 weeks before my surgery and also had to have bloods taken again 2 days before for cross match Incase I needed a transfusion. Hopefully your assessment appt won't be too lorn x

Can't answer your question as I assume you are in the UK.  But I would urge you to do some research and find a doctor who does the hip rplacement in the ANTERIOR approach. Google it.  I had this surgery and it was infinitely easier with less pain and quicker recovery.

Hi Sarah thanks for the reply hope Iam not waiting that long as I have waited 5 years for it as Iam in a wheelchair I fell out of my chair and broke my hip so that's why a new one xx

gilly many thanks for your reply I hope I am not waiting to long as I have been waiting 5years fell out of my wheelchair and broke my hip said I needed a new one but had waited all this time seen 4 doc's over the time this last one said it should have been done when I first did it a very nice doc is this one xx

Ahh i see thats such a shame. Were you oerfectly fine before the accident? Iv needed one since birth really but finally im 9 weeks now. The usual waitinglist is 5 months in the uk. I was put on the list on the of November, pre op on the 9th of Feb and surgery was meant to be Monday the 29th of Feb but i was cancelled so didnt end up getting surgery till the 11th of April so was around 6 months in total xx

Hi nonny thank you for replying I live in the uk but Iam also in a wheelchair  I fell out of it 5years ago and broke my hip been every since for a new one seen 4 different doctors the 5th one said it should have been done right at the beginning not five years down the line so because of my mobility he is going to do a new procedure xx

I fell and broke my hip 30th of April had my THR 2nd May. Doctor said it had to be done within 36 hrs.

Hi brendahis for your reply will let you know when I get my appointment but I will not hold my breath as I have waited 5years now that was when I fell out of my wheelchair at the time was told I had not done any damage but because I have no feeling below my waist it had broken and part mended itself sorry for going on at you xx

Hi Gothic lady 

the waiting time depends on where you are in UK but a few months generally . Due to what i am presuming is a long term ? Paraplegia / being in a wheelchair etc your op and stay in hospital will be a bit more complex - they should send you an appt for the pre op assessment soon and you should then get a date -if you phone your consultants secretary up he/she should be able to tell you a rough idea of the wait -  good luck with it all xxxxx

I can't really answer your question because I live in Holland - things are a bit different here -

I agree with Bini, call the secretary and ask her how to proceed and what you need to do, how long the wait is etc ...
