Pre-Op and Information

I had my pre-op testing yesterday and good to know all came out well! I'm good to go on April 2nd!

Just a few tidbits: I won't have to wear those tight stockings (Ted Hose) because I will have the ankle pumps for a few days.

Also I won't be taking injections of blood thinner but will take 1 325mg aspirin instead.

I'm having surgery done ante-lateral which means I will be cut on the side of my hip. Won't have the 90 degree precautions but won't be able to cross legs at ankles for 6-8 weeks.

Mostly, they told me that I will be somewhat sedated when they give me the epidural. That gives me some relief because I'm scared to death of having an epidural.

My surgeon and his staff have been wonderful!

All sounding good, but where are you? It seems each country has different methods and procedures.

I'm in the United States

That's good.  Sounds very similar to mine.  I had ankle pumps on as well, much better than those stockings.  I had two blood thinning injections and aspirin to take home.  I was lightly sedated before they put the epidural in so knew nothing about it either.  Its great done that way.  Good luck.

Hi

I'm in the UK and never heard of ankle pumps  lol

The injections I managed threm OK

I am in uk and had ankle pumps they were like inflatables around each leg pumping air in and out, they were very soothing and I wish I could have brought them home, so no nasty stockings for me either. I also was cut on the side but still had to avoid 90° bend. I didn't have blood thinning injections either, just tablets.

Hi Chrisytine

They sound very interesting and as you say soothing.

I hated the TEDS but didnt mind the injections.,.,got used to them for the short time i had to do them

Hi Eileen, I'm glad I didn't have to do injections I had enough to do without worrying about those.

I had my first shower today nearly 6 weeks post op. I was so excited. I see my consultant thursday and I'm hoping he'll tell me I can drive, woohoo !!!

Hi Christine

Good luck with your 6 week visit

I remember how I felt when I was going for mine

I'm sure he will say you can drive......you really miss it when you cant dont you?

Even now 14 months on and on 2 crutches permanently I am allowed to drive and it is great.....independence!!!

Eileen

Hi Eileen exactly, especially when you can't walk very far it does give you that independence. I can go to small shops that I can park outside if I need something and to visit my relatives and friends.

Hi, great to hear you are having wonderful care.

Which hospital and which consultant?

Good luck for 2nd April.

Hi Paula!

I'm in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania. I have all the confidence in the world with my surgeon. The first one I saw was rather sloppy. So I got another surgeon.

It just seems like the recovery time is forever
