I am booked in for a Total Hip Replacement on April 4.
There are some concerns regarding the pre op assessment. I spoke with my GP yesterday and described some digestive symptoms to her that I have suffered from throughout my life. She feel that the symptoms point to gastric reflux and has put me on a course of PPIs for 28 days, starting yesterday, the 15th February. There was also a brief discussion about HP. I have ordered and received a course of mastic which has to be taken for four weeks, starting tonight.
I had bloods taken in December and they came back as a slightly low thyroid. So, I am scheduled to have them redone on the 14 March. This does not leave much time between mid March and the op. The pre op assessment will be approximately three weeks before surgery.
I am concerned about the abdominal issues and the borderline thyroid issues, and how they may or may not, affect the surgery date and pre op assessment.
I do have a all into my GP, but unless I can catch her today, it will have to wait until next week, as she is away until then.
Runnng againt the clock on this!
Any feedback would be of immense help.
Hi susie74530
I would most definitely not take mastic unless you know for certain you have HPylori. If I were in your position I would get tested first for HP and if positive be treated with antibiotics if that doesn't work then talk to your doc about taking the mastic tabs. You may not have HP and may do more harm to your stomach than good. Wait for your pre-assessment have your hip op and then talk to your doc about getting an endoscopy, stool test or breath test for HP.
Of course its your decision, but that is the route I would take. I would not want to be dealing with post op recovery and possible problems with my tum by taking mastic that could possibly make you feel worse than you already do.... best wishes with your hip replacement op......
As I mentioned in my post, my GP, Whom I saw yesterdat, stated that my symptoms were more indiciative of gastric reflux as I have the symptoms since birth, pretty much.
What a nuisance, I have just spent over £30 on Mastic! What a waste of my money as such an expensive time!
Hi susie74530
HPylori causes gastric reflux and you have had it over a long period of time. I would advise a HP test.....if just to rule it out. Then again you may have HP and your money will not have gone to waste....if you need too use the mastic eventually. I would definitely gave the test!! .....best wishes......
