Pre operation pain

I have the groin pain sometimes, front top of

leg pain and ache, pain when I stand up and hope

my leg will not collapse, pain when bending down, even

using golfer's method, clicking of my hip, aching of my back,

plus a few more I won't bother you with. Has anyone any

tips to help me through the next 10days.

Hi cathie,

I know exactly how you feel.

Here are some things that helped me.

Microwaveable wheat bag put across the bottom of my back helped with back pain.

Ice pack on the sides of my hips also helped because it eases any bursitis that may exist.

A grabby hand helps to pick things up.

I have also found that taking small steps eases the groin pain.

Hope this helps even if in a small way.

Good luck.

All the best

Lyn

Just keep taking the pain killers xx

Can't unfortunately, I was dosed with painkillers

and anti inflammatories and damaged my liver.

my liver took over a year to recover, and also left me

with IBS. I have decided I'll have to focus on the post

operation improvement.

i am resting a lot, and we've moved to the downstairs

bedroom. So no stairs.I will try your tips.

I am trying to be more positive in my outlook.

The surprise is that I feel better for having told you all.

I would definitely keep painkillers to a minimum Cathie.

Find other ways. For instance. A plastic bag on the car seat helps to swivel in and out.

I have to have an afternoon kip too.

Walking downstairs backwards really helped me too.

I too have found this site hugely helpful. Can't wait for my op now.

When you have had yours. Let us know how you are and give me some post op tips!

Wishing you lots of luck.

Keep talking. Keep expressing too.

Hi Cathie, most people have this pain,I tried to do as many exercises as I could before the op,also took what pain killers I could, but I was told that rest is as important as exercise before and after the op,it will be here before you know it,take one day at a time, and don't forget this site, the Hippies will get you through it,get involved,we are all thinking about you God Bless Michael.

Unfortunately I am finding I can't even walk far now,

I missed my optimim time to have the op because I

needed support and 5th Oct was the first time I could

get my daughter to stay. I left it too late for comfort.

I keep saying to myself a phrase that had helped me

before 'the absence of pain is joy'.. Thank you for your reply

If you do have to use the stairs - I found that when my leg started giving way I went up the stairs good leg leading every step and down bad leg leading - so the bad leg didn't have to take  the weight and bend.

Also try  not to turn with the bad leg leading as the rotation sometimes causes pain. I sometimes turned the whole body on the spot a bit army like if you know what I mean when I had to go round corners.

You are lucky to only have 10 days to wait, I am suffering exactly the same symptoms but I have no idea when I will be getting my op.

Me too Dennis,

Sometime in the next 3 months so I'm told.

same here not sure when my op is going to be, according to a letter that the consultant wrote to the surgery dated 7th july he was planning to do the op in 2 months time, here we are end of sept, when contacted consultent secretary she said that sept  and oct list patients have been allocated dates seems as long as you get the first one done with in the 18 week period, the 2nd one can be any time, and when i mentioned about going on holiday she said they would have to put me to the end of the list again, so my answer was do i have to put my life on hold till the secretary decides what date she is going give.

Hi Cathie

I have my left hip operated on and my right hip collapsed shortly after. Waiting to go in for that one to be done.. I have found heat keeps the pain down a lor. I have thremal blankets. I have a cushon that is like an electric blanket but thicker and I use it on my bad hip. I also have the heating turned up if I feel cold. It all helps. I have found heat helps more than ice packs. Icepacks are more useful after the op. Try wearing trousers more than skirts / dresses to keep warm too. I hope you won't have to wait too long.

Hi cathy, i am like you in pain and have a wonky donky walk, that is very painfull, cannot sit down to lon (work in an office) standing also bothers me but i have a light at the end of the tnnel, my date for my hip is november 13 and although i am scared silly i just want it done now, thanks to all the wonderful friends on tjis site, i know my life will be different come november 14th. Xx

dear cathie -

I am so sorry that you are in so much pain right now ---- I just went through it myself and honestly, there is not much I could do about it - I forced myself to get out and go groceries shopping - pain was getting bad that even the pain medication barely helped ... but heat helped to soothe it a bit -

hang in there. darling - do what you can - like others said here, at least you have a date with the surgeon, spo help is on the way ...

and yes, to share here really helps - nobody else understands it -

so come back and just moan okay?

warm hug

renee

Because of what you said I realized that I can do the

post op exercises..balance one leg, lying down foot and ankle

exercises, etc and they will help me for afterwards. Thank

you.

Yes,turning quickly does pain my hip, a jarring pain.

standing gives me an aching pain, my groin pain is

intense because it restricts me, the stabbing pain

comes anywhere and shocks me, while the back pain terrifies

me and the' inability to lie on my bad hip pain 'agonizes me!

what about that lot! On a lighter note I've worn out my stylus

since I joined this site, and have bought two more for post op.

the new ones really are speedier to use.

when I'm out now I look at the way people walk, It is amazing

how many lopsided and wobbly walkers there are around,

they all have my sympathy, but they don't seem to be in pain.

My walk was normal after my first op, but the protective limp

we develop came about 10 months later along with the pain.

I had back pain above my hip just about where the top of the pelvis is. I'm sure it was muscle related. After my op it has gone completely. It might not be the same as yours but yours could also be down to how you are walking and supporting your hip and now the muscles are feeling the strain. Fingers crossed it will go like mine did.
