Hi!
I have Consipation Predominant IBS and have recently been researching probiotics, hoping that maybe they might be of some help.
The basics I have come across is that the capsule supplement type is the ideal kind of probiotic, and that the bacteria should be in the billions.
It should contain a PREBIOTIC, FOS(Fructo-oligosaccharides) or INULIN.
If you are going to try a probiotic supplement most of the advice suggests giving it atleast a month to see if any positive results take affect.
I have never tried a capsule probiotic before. I found one I liked the look of and it is called PREBIO7. I brought it from boots and have been taking it for a few days.
You can take 1 or 2 capsules a day.
I will let you know if I find it helpful.
Anyone tried this? Or tried a useful probiotic?
Thanks.
I am currently taking Prebio7, two capsules a day.
First week (my first week taking this probiotic)
The first few days I have noticed a lot more wind than usual. I did have a couple of slightly more normal bowel evacuations.
As in my stool felt somewhat looser, as opposed to rock hard pellet like stool.
However after a couple of okay stools, it has reverted back to usual.
Second week.
I have been feeling really exhausted these couple of weeks, very tired in general.
I am not sure whether it is the Probiotic for certain. It is just interesting to note though.
I had a really good poo a few days ago, and was getting pretty hopeful. It was good for many reasons.
Notably good because I did not have to strain for ages, it was a smoother journey altogether.
I managed to produce a fairly healthy looking amount as opposed to 1 or 2 small pellet like drops after being on the toilet for a fair while.
It looked healthier too in colour, as opposed to dark and stale looking.
That was a few days ago now though.
Also yesterday I felt very bloated, like i had eaten too much food and was about to explode. Which was strange as I had not eaten anything. It was just an uncomfortable full feeling.
I was also urinating a lot yesterday. Like every half an hour or more. I have had the problem before of having to urinate often without being on this probiotic.
This was quite bad though as lately it has been okay.
Anyway strange but true I would say so far....
Week three.
I have not noticed much change.
It is funny on the back of the packet of Prebio7 it says \"friendly bacteria can help prevent bloating and heaviness after meals\".
Well I don't know what to say, I seem to be more bloated since taking these.
Maybe it could be due to the 2 types of fibre in this supplement, soy and fructo-oligo-saccharide.
I am just wondering, I don't know anything for sure.
There's no need to take a bunch of bacteria every day, you only have to introduce them every once and a while as generally speaking the colonies are self sustaining, they don't all come out with your poo, they live amongst the villi of the Intestine. This wind thing you are experiencing seems to confirm this, it sounds like bacterial overgrowth syndrome :D
I am totally lost as to what you are saying sorry.
Week Four
Well unfortunately I have not noticed much change as to warrant me carrying on with PREBIO7.
Very dissappointed.
I still have a lot of bloating and the other symptoms.
I am going to try another different probiotic.
Apparently this one was made in France and distributed in the UK by 'Forever Young International'.
Well I certainly have not noticed any feelings of vitality and I certainly don't feel healthier as they state on the packet.
deary dear.
