I recently had a colonoscopy and the doctor found 26 polyps and 25 of them were precancerous. There is a lot of cancer in my family so it concerns me. I am a melanoma survivor. Should I have genetic testing? The doctor wants me to have another colonoscopy in 6 months.
The big thing is that they found them! I definitely think he is right to do another check in 6 months. Some people go through phases like this and then they seem to stop coming. For others it's a permanent watching exercise, but worth it. What's your idea about the genetic testing?
I'd just do the colonoscopies as directed and on time.
That must have been a shock! Did they remove them all? What sort of size were they? Sounds very much like HNPCC/Lynch syndrome to me (...just from previous reading...) Two sessile serrated adenomas were incidentally found and removed at my colonoscopy recently and it sent me into a flap, so I can certainly imagine how you're feeling, especially having had fought off melanoma in the past.
Whoops, didn't answer your question - personally, yes, O would have genetic testing. Then you can decide where to go from there I.e. regular surveillance, colectomy, etc

I have an appointment for Colonoscopy test after 10 days. I did not know about it till today. It is so strange due to the process ..I want to know that with colonoscopy what doctor understands? It is realy helpful? Because my stomach has severe cramps thay can cure it? Is there anyone with my problem and had colonoscopy test?
Colonoscopy is considered the 'gold standard' (the best) method to diagnose any lower gastrointestinal issue, provided biopsies are taken during the procedure. They will almost certainly be able to diagnose your problem, probably in conjunction with blood tests. Good luck. (The procedure is fine)
Thank you. They take the blood test yesterday. The doctor asked me to follow a strict diet for two days before coloniscopy test. I think I can not do this strict diet. As far as I understood I should not eat anything 15 hours before test except water and some preparing supplement. If I do not any thing for a long time I will callapse . I am living here alone and no one I knows. It is necessary for me to take some one with myself?
Yes, 100% you must have someone take you home, because you will be sedated during the colonoscopy and you must not drive after. Also, try to book procedure first thing in the morning so you will sleep through most of the fasting/non-eating period. You MUST, must, must follow the guidelines, otherwise they will not do the procedure/they will ask you to repeat the procedure another day. You need to have a completely empty colon otherwise faeces obscure the view of your mucosa, which can mask cancerous polyps. It is very straightforward, and you will be glad you followed instructions as it is the only way to gain accuracy. Search: 'poor colonoscopy prep' on YouTube. You will see it is best to follow the instructions. I wish you the very best.
In the US, the colonoscopy is the "gold" standard because the gastroenterologists find that pot of gold by this barbaric test.
