Husband has always preferred his curries and chilli con carne "hotter" than mine - but when I make them now he's not gettting the chilli heat (he says).
Is this common?

Who's got the PMR here?..Are you asking if this is mormal whilst taking pred....if so i have no clue on that one, although preds may change our taste sensivity.....if it is your husband maybe you will have to put extra chilli in his portions......bon appetite!...
Yes my sense of taste has been gone for months. an occasional breakthrough on odd things, but food tastes like cardboard. I eat to stay alive and try to remember the tastes if knew before. don't know if caused by PMR or pred.
I am a foodie and love cooking but alas most of my taste has gone.. I put it down to the pred. It's most annoying as I don't know if things have enough spice, salt etc in when cooking for guests and have to ask my husband. I look at dishes and know they are delicious and love eating them but I am using my memory as to what they taste like and if they are enjoyable! It's most frustrating but still hoping it will come back once under 5mg. I love bananas and have one a day but can only taste a bland flavour.

It could be that PMR and/or Prednisone has affected me with some tastes, but thankfully it seems very selective in my case. I used to have only mild salsa but now the strongest is fine for me. Same with tabasco-type sauces. I don't notice any changes with garlic or garlic salt/powder. For me it's the subtle seasonings that require boosting up. Now is that a side effect of PMR/Presnisone or is that just from age marching on? Take you pick.
Husband is the one with PMR.
Dried chilli peppers are in the frying oil at the very start of a curry so so portions cannot be varied unfortunately.
Thanks people - I had been wondering whether it was Pred or aging. I don't think I'll tell him that there has been mention of all taste going, fortunately he's not a foodie.
Something of a problem for me though as I cook soups and sauces from scratch - hell just have to up his flavouring with bottled sauces and chutneys - I gave up making preserves some time a go as it's very difficult to stop once having started.
A good dollop of jalapeno sauce could maybe sort the curry/chilli problem Mary.

Not just sense of taste, but smell also....unless someone is wearing a hideously strong perfume

I seem to have lost my sense of smell too I have some lovely roses round a pergola which used to smell gorgeous, but they seem to have totally lost their smell. I think it is me not the roses though. I still seem to have my sense of taste though.
Pred CAN alter sense of taste and smell. Tell him to be grateful - lots of us get extra sweats with "hot" food!
Having read the other comments - I have never had a problem with taste, that's OH's field. But unpleasant things hit me like a ton of bricks.

Oh that will sort it for him. Think you may need a good few dollops. If that doesn't improve the hottness of his curries or chilli con carnie then add the whole bottle...you'll know if it's working he'll be sweating pints...😂😂😂🙄
Aside from the weight gain, loss of smell, taste, compared to others....I’m grateful my condition is
under control. Attempted to cut down slowly, and the rebound of symptoms returned....my MD suggested 5mg is not toxic enough to cause eye disease, and cataracts have been operated.....will remain, in grateful with the status quo.
Hi Eileen .jeanb here am getting worried as not receiving any posts is there any reason you can think of .I have seen something when I tried to sort it about some changes to forum .can any be through any light on it please.
Have you looked in your spam folder? I've had problems with both here and HealthUnlocked but at present they seem OK. I've reported your post though - hope you see it!
And it occurs to me - does pred subdue the inflammatory response to chillies and stuff?
