Pred and work

Hi everyone I thought I would just post an update on my progress so here goes...

Having started to slowly reduce the Pred I'm happy to say I'm now down to 30 mg a day ( not low I admit) and this seems to be ok for now, I have had no GCA repercussions but have had a few Pred side effects, mainly my lovely chubby cheeks ( good job I wasn't skinny to start with) and I get the shakes now and then!

But I have managed to return to work ( I have a fantastic head teacher) completing a full week, I have to admit by Thursday I was feeling tired and Saturday I did sleep a lot!!

I do think I am one of the lucky ones at the moment having read some horror stories about Pred, my doctor just said to me that I'm lucky Pred is my friend and I seem to respond better than many on it , so I am feeling great full just now

My ruhmey apt was for this coming Friday but has been cancelled and put back until end of May so I'm to continue on my jolly way until then

Only one problem in all this .... The strange taste I have in my mouth , all food taste the same !!!!!

I hope this gives a bit of hope to someone that there is a fairly normal life to have even taking Pred

Hazel

Good to hear Hazel - and do look after yourself now youa re back at work.

Yes - others have commented on cardboard food. Look on it as a way of cutting what you eat and helping reduce the weight gain!

Pred IS your friend: you still can see and work. What a gift (maybe, vision certainly, work??????)

Keep in touch - because your sort of story is so useful.

Hi Hazel

Glad all is working well for you and I can understand that after a full weeks work you are indeed tired so make the most of your weekends and rest and relax. Good luck for a steady pred reduction and I hope you continue to improve. Dave (tavidu)

Hello Hazel, it's great to hear that your recovery journey is progressing positively, slowly but surely. I know you're back at work and loving it but just don't over do it. But it's good to hear that everything's ok. All the best, christina

Thanks Eileen I will keep in touch and yes I treasure my sight and the ability to work with the wonderful children everyday as for the cardboard I think your correct it does tend to stop you eating so much as it all tastes the same lol

Take care

Hazel x

Thanks Dave

Yes I was tired but as you say I'm taking it easy at the weekends ( well this weekend will be a test as I have the magnificent children's parade and my birthday) but it's a bank holiday so a short week next week I will keep my positive head on x

Take care

Hazel x

Thanks Christina

I'm taking it slowly,I have a great boss who is very understanding and I'm resting as much as I can at weekend , I'm staying positive and fingers crossed it continues to go smoothly

Take care

Hazel

sounds awesome! I'm totally impressed. 30mg is my goal so yes, I think it's cool you've reached that point.

congrats going back to work! that is a major milestone!

Hi Lisa

Thanks for that I'm happy to be steady and well on 30 mg for now and feeling positive, I'm sure you will get there slowly I'm fortunate to have a great head teacher who understands what I'm going through and I'm resting a lot after school and the weekends ( I'm quite good at doing nothing lol)

Good luck and take care

Hi Hazel, it's soo good to hear that you have greatly improved and back at work.  We are truly Blessed and I am endlessly grateful as I know now that I had undiagnosed GCA although I hadn't even had PMR diagnosis.  Was I lucky or was I lucky.  You take care now and enjoy doing nothing.  Regards  Pat

Good luck with the childrens parade and Happy Birthday for next week, enjoy your day. Dave

Hi Hazel glad you feel so positive.  Some of the side effects are weird... Apart from a slightly rounded face, my hair has gone curly... Yep it's true..

Best wishes..

Well done Hazel and congrats.  Your encouragement will go a long way.

"my hair has gone curly" - a lot of people have found that! Mine went sort of horrible and frizzy with Medrol and seemed to stop growing altogether but after coming off that, prednisone has made it curly. Now it's long enough to straighten out again...

That's wonderful news, Hazel.

Hello Hazel, i am glad all is going well for you, asnd i wish you all the very best, just take it as easy as you can. hugs x
