Prednisolene

After a course of Prednisolone my chest feels better. But I still try to take a deep breath which sometimes I cannot get in.

Any thoughts please.

Thoughts....

Historical past experience:-

medicine (inhaler meds) is not reaching the lungs, - check back with doc or respiratory nurse, check technique used,  if appropriate discuss use of a spacer etc.

the medicine isn't working - check back with doc respiratory nurse

you still have a lung infection - check back withy your doc to discuss symptoms.

try breathing out before breathing in, emptying the lungs before inhalation.

Hello

Besides this course of Prednisone, what other medications do you take?

Lill

That is what my doctor prescribed for me when I first had an episode with shortness of breath. It sure scared me. Some lung problems can be progressive. I pray yours is not. I wish you well and that you are able to overcome your breathing problem.

Hello vee

Went to see chest specialist last year.Took spirometry tests and x-rays

He said I did not have copd and that my chest problems were probably due to conditioning

after a knee replacement. Over the last month been short of breath and become worried again.

Doctor gave me course of Prednisolone and omoxocillin.

Any thoughts please.

Hi lill

Told last year did not have copd but struggling once again with shortness of breath

Doctor gave me a course of Prednisolone and omoxocillin

Waiting for another chest x-ray becoming worried again

Thank you

Waiting on results of chest X-ray

Breathing become worse over last couple of weeks

prednisolone and amoxocillin is prescribed for chest infection.   People who have no diagnosis of COPD can also get chest infections.  Chest Infections need to be treated whatever the reason.

If your respiratory specialist says you don't have COPD, he would know, but if you do have some other lung related illness I am guessing your respiratory specialist would have been aware of that also and communicated same.

Shortness of breath does not mean you have COPD either.  COPD can be diagnosed as any other lung illness can be diagnosed.

But still my thoughts are you should go back to your doctor to discuss your symptoms, if you are worried it is COPD you can communicate your reasons to you doctor who can carry out the appropriate tests and if need be refer you again to a specialising consultant.

Long periods of inactivity through illness may cause shortness of breath as can a chest infection perhaps .  If you have been inactive for a long time you may be able to access the OTT services through your GP (occupational therapy team)

Thank you for your reply Vee

The reason I'm worried it might be Copd is I'm sucking in air and struggling when I'm walking

when I'm moving.Do you think it's possible I could have got Copd in the year since I saw the chest specialist.

year since I saw the specialist.

Its hard to say richard. I am not a doctor nor do I know what substances you may be in contact with on a daily basis so I can't really answer that question "Do you think it's possible I could have got Copd in the year since I saw the chest specialist."

If you are smoking heavily its possible, if you inhale smoke daily, toxic substance regularly its possible, if you inhale building materials dust, in contact with asbestos etc etc, if the chemicals you work with on a day to day basis, all these could harm the lungs.

On the other hand, shortness of breath when walking is not only down to COPD,  there are a few other conditions which could cause this, all the more reason for you to go back to your doctor and communicate you symptoms.  Think about other symptoms as well as the shortness of breath that will help your doctor decide which tests may be needed to elminate or indicate a problem.
