Info with OH's pred states to avoid liquorice; anyone have experience of this please? AFIK liquorice can raise blood pressure but OH is wondering re some locally made award winning sausages which do have some in the recipe - he's certainly not contemplating eating Pontefract Cakes.

Please excuse my ignorance. 
. What does ‘OH’ and ‘AFIK’ ?..
Is it liquorice or fennel or aniseed that is in the bangers? I eat/drink products made with both aniseed and fennel (love it as a veg) without problems. Even the odd Pontefract cake is unlikely to do much harm - I think it is larger amounts that do it.
It is the root liquorice that is said to potentiate the effects of pred - they mean side effects but maybe it also potentiates the effect - a steroid sparer in effect. Methotrexate, that supposed steroid sparer, certainly potentiated pred side effects in me but that didn’t seem to worry the docs!

Still not happening..still going to forum meaning and various forums…couldn’t see anything referring to liquorice…
No, it should take you to a discussion on the site from 2015 about liquorice and pred - and if you copy and paste the https:// etc bit into google it does. I can’t work out how to stick it into my post though. I thought I had followed Alan’s instructions… I give up!

I’ve fixed the link above and deleted the repeats. Until we get the pasting of links being hot on posts I’d suggest just paste them as normal but Report the post straight away with FAO Alan - fix link and I will edit them. It’s not ideal but as I will be in the forums a lot for the foreseeable it won’t take me long to sort.

There have been a few other discussions scattered around other groups that I have seen with similar comments but it is mainly this group that is providing the feedback as one of the more active groups with users knowledgeable of the history of the forums. As for “being pains” - I’d say the opposite, as frustrating as the changes may be for you and others it is very useful to get real users’ opinions and ideas so don’t stop.

Although black liquorice seems to have some health benefits it also comes with some contraindications. I’ve always avoided it, not only because I loathe the taste but also because too much can lead to cardiac arrhythmia or even stroke - so make sure you don’t have that sort of risk factor in your family.

I was having cardiac arythmia from eating 3 pieces of liquorice last week, was becoming concerned as to what was happening, then a ‘light bulb’ awakening of remembering NO liquorice with Pred.Fine now no problem.
