Preparing for adult strabismus surgery: What are your long-term experiences with alignment holding up?

Hello everyone. I am currently preparing to undergo strabismus surgery to correct a deviation I’ve had for a long time. Along with the misalignment, I also suffer from double vision (diplopia) and completely blurred vision, which makes daily tasks quite difficult. Due to this condition, I spent years isolating myself from social circles. However, during that isolation, I found a profound connection to music—I started writing my own songs and discovered my passion for singing. My ultimate goal now is to perform on stage and be able to look my audience directly in the eyes while sharing my art.

As I get closer to the surgery date, I am trying to mentally prepare for the outcome. I’ve been reading a lot about the procedure, but I would love to hear real patient insights.

For those who had this surgery as adults, did your alignment hold up well over the years, or did you experience a drift that required a second adjustment down the road? Did the operation help resolve your double or blurred vision? Also, how did you manage the transition from being socially isolated to suddenly feeling comfortable looking people in the eye?

Any advice or personal stories about your recovery and long-term results would mean the world to me. Thank you in advance! :expressionless_face:
