Hello all, Been awhile since I signed in. My Pmr started on November 2015. Now on 5mg predisone. I called doctor today, because had bladder infection. She sent me AMOXICILLIN/CLAVULANIC ACID can i take this in the morning the same time i take my predisone. Thanks for your help.
Hi Judy,
i am also taking that antibiotic for a bladder infection and asked the pharmacist about taking with pred and she said no problem. I didn't ask about the time but considering you should take both with food I think she would have said something if it was important.
I never get UTI's (at least not for about 35 yrs). Is this another pred. treat😕?
Hugs, Diana🌸
It may be a good idea to check with the pharmacist to make absolutely sure, they are really helpful usually and possibly more knowledgable than doctors in that area.
You have really reduced quickly to 5mg of pred if you were only diagnosed with PMR in November.
Not sure about that. It was weird about my bladder infection. It would bother me for awhile then clear up. So i guess predisone was helping some, but not completely taking it away. I get one about once a year.
Yes very lucky, have good and bad day, like us all. Go to doctor on the 9th of july going to try and start to 4 1/2 mg . On the Eileen slow and go aproch. Thanks will call the pharmacies.
Hello judy.Well done getting down to 5mgs,would just like to say please dont be tempted to rush your last reduction plan as you wisely say 1/2mg at a time useing Slow reduction plan. Best WIishes & Good Luck.Dave
The only antibiotics that are a problem alongside corticosteroids are members of the quinolone group - their names mostly end in -oxacin. I believe it is also a case that if you have a history of pred use you shouldn't take them - the effect persists.
It isn't dangerous per se but can lead to inflammation of the achilles tendon which is not only a pain but is very persistent - I was on crutches for 9 months and I gather that is fairly good for achilles problems to go away...
I wouldn't be 100% sure that a doctor or a pharmacist would pick it up - mine didn't!
