I frequently have pressure around my nose, eyes, forehead, temples, and back of head and it worsens when I read or socialize. It affects my cognitive functioning and ability to function in general because the pressure gets worse and my brain feels "foggy" and I cannot visually focus. The lights seem too bright and everything is a little bit blurry. I have felt this way for many years. I do not have a runny nose or cough, but have recently noticed that I feel some post nasal drip. I have also noticed that sometimes I see sparks or stars, but not frequenly. I have talked about this to my doctor many times but he thinks that it is something psychological related such as anxiety or depression. He has referred me to a psychaitrist who said the same thing and prescribed me an anti-depressant called "Trintellix" which apparently improves cognitive functioning alongside treating anxiety and depression.
Furthermore, I have done some blood tests and the only thing that came out of this was that I have am low in iron. I have since increased my iron levels and it is now in the normal range. I feel anxious and sad most of the time because of the affect that this physical feeling has on my functioning. It feels like I cannot function normally. I cannot hold conversations because my brain feels foggy and I cannot concentrate.. I am wondering if anybody experienced this before and is it related to anxiety or something else? Thank you so much.
Yes! I get such bad pressure throughout my whole head sometimes just my nose or for head somtimes just the top of head or temples.... Whatever... It varies and does what it wants... Whether I'm anxious or worried or not...: it also badly effects my concentration. And I get very spaced out and foggy brain.. It's been going on for about 6 months for me now... Had MRI and ct scan.... All normal... Dr said its anxiety and add.... It also seems to get worse when I'm looking at my phone or doing school work on the computer for a while
You need an eye test to make sure your eyes are okay I bought my adult son a Neti Pot because he has similiar symptoms due to sinus problems. It cleans out the sinuses. I got it from Amazon. Lots of people swear by them. It won't harm to look it up, but no googling symptoms!!!!!!!!!!
Its the worst , Emily I relate to.you the most because most of our anxiety sensations and symptoms are In our heads which is super scary and painful at times , not to mention the other anxiety issues we face
I think you are NOTICING the head pressure more because of anxiety and percieved cognitive impairment and fog most definitely follows due to deep-rooted anxiety yes. BUT I absolutely disagree with everyone here (and your doctor) that your other sensations are necessarily CAUSED by anxiety. And will continue to disagree until your GP and/or psychiatrist take the appropriate steps to rule out an underlying medical condition which is normally done before starting medication or at the very least in parallel. Your symptoms are consistent with chronic sinus inflammation or deep congestion. The steps that should have been taken in parallel to commencing your anti-anxiety therapy were to refer you to an ORL (ear-nose-throat specialist) as well as an eye doctor to check your occular pressure. Not sure why this step would be skipped. People with anxiety often get discounted in any of their concerns. Great that they are starting you on therapy as you are obviously very tense. Now if they would also do the remainder of their job we wouldn't be having this conversation. Blood tests would not turn up anything on a chronic sinus condition nor high occular pressure. I would politely ask them to refer you so that you can exclude the above, while you follow their otherwise good advice and start therapy.
I have the exact problems and my doctor is telling me its in my head. They told me I need to See a psychiatrist and that its panic attacks. I don't agree as I realise When I use menthol and steam to inhale and exhale the pressure is greatly improved.and it also lossens the phlegm in my throat which makes me start to feel better. I think we have an issue with our sinuses and do need to see an ENT specialist. I also get dizzy and confused which makes me fidgety and gives me short breath.
I have the exact same problem. I am currently on Tintrellix, which I hate because it gives me a lot of anxiety. But as if my problems weren't enough, I believe I have some king of chronic sinus infection. I have a heavy head most of the time acoompanyied by headaches sometimes and also the light bothers me. When the days are bright and humid I can see black dots. It's crazy because it makes the ocd and anxiety even worse.
What you were saying can definitely be related to anxiety. It causes a foggy head and poor concentration. I have had those symptoms plus many more from anxiety and stress. Sometimes I'll be thinking about something and then I just draw a blank . I hate that feeling. Anxiety is a terrible culprit of many symptoms. Try to relax your mind because that will in turn calm your body and mind .
Although not an MD sweetie, it sounds like you may be having migraines. The stars and sparks you see are called "auras" and after them, you will probably get a migraine with 15 minutes. That's usually how long it takes for me as the "auras" continue to close in on my vision for about that time..the gradually subside, leaving me with a fullness in my head including around my nose, eyes, forehead, temples and back of my head.
The "auras" won't allow you to visually focus on anything as they work their way right into your vision. At least that's the way with me. I just had to wait it out and most of the time they last about 15 minutes.
I've been there and have the same thing happen to me. During these times of "auras" and feeling very foggy afterward, I felt extremely anxious. Auras and migraines can happen very often and I can completely understand the way you're feeling.
I have a simply wonderful counselor; along with a fantastic psychotherapist who have both told me that these are migraines. In addition, people who aren't familiar with getting them can get very anxious. You can try deep breathing exercises which some "quack" might tell you to do..but when I did those..the only thing they gave me was the hiccups..lol!!
If you see your MD,they may decide to refer you to a counselor; along with a psychotherapist who will write you a prescription plan for your issues, as most MDs would rather refer you than write those types of prescriptions anymore..simply due to the crap going on in this world with overdoses, etc.
I'm sure there are great counselors and psychotherapists in your area that would be very glad to help. That's what they're there for.
Have you had like a pressure you feel in your sinus and you squeeze up on the roof of your mouth and feel pressure increase in sinuses? I get a pressure feeling and then it never results in pain, just like sinus pressure feeling like a balloon inflating..
Hi Christina sorry to hear what you are going through. I too have had these same symptoms for the last 3 months. The only difference being I also suffer from pins and needles in my face and hands during the height of my anxiety with these symptoms. After an eye exam (results normal), bloods including inflammation markers (which came back normal), a course of amoxycillin antibiotics, neurologist consult, MRI (clear); Nerve conduction studies (clear) and countless doctors appointments who seem to think it’s all anxiety related, I too am no further forward. Did you ever get a diagnosis?
Hi I have the same feelings as your self iv been told it's anxcity but I feel it's not because I feel like this every second of the day I have good days when the head fog is easy to manage. It's gets me down. Trying to function every day is hard work and tiering with work going to the gym ECT or even just going out with family and friends. On my bad days it's extremely hard to deal with anything. This has been like it for 4 years now and no test has found anything I just woke up one morning like it. It kills me because I still feel me inside but this horrible feeling in my head and unsteady on my feet takes over. I feel your pain and suffering you just need keep going and hopefully you will find the problem
I am 79 years old and I have practically the identical problems to you. My problems started about 10 years ago with being filled with fear the whole day long. In the mornings my pyjamas were soaking wet. A physiatrist told me that I had a physical problem and SSRI pills would get rid of it. I think it was that that eventually got rid of the fear. The problem is that that has been followed by all different weird sensations including a terrible pressure behind my nose, headaches, depersonalisation (where everything in the street seems unreal), derealisation, panic attacks etc. One of those who responded to you mentioned getting pins and needles in his hands. Well I have got carpal tunnel in both hands and that involves terrible pain with pins and needles. I think I’m going crazy every morning and (people say that) I’m above average intelligence. I have a feeling that the hands problem is a mixture of carpal tunnel and anxiety. I’m having an operation for the carpal tunnel next week. Two months ago I had a triple bypass operation, so I’m not short of problems. I study Talmud every morning with a friend, and usually whilst I’m studying I’m alright, but as soon as I stop studying all hell breaks loose and everything looks strange. My wife says I have a phobia. I have been to many psychiatrists and at the moment I take duloxetine for the anxiety but it doesn’t seem to help. CBT doesn’t help me. Many knowledgeable people have told me that my salvation will come when I get the right pill. But I must remember that everything is decreed from Above.
