Pressure sore

Has anyone else had a pressure sore after tkr I have one on my heel since surgery and am now week 15 ! Any suggestions on how to cope ?

Hi

i had a problem in hospital lifting myself up the bed and caused skin burns on my elbows.

i am 3 1/2 weeks now and suffering with my coxis area I am sure it is because I have never laid and sat so much.

i am massaging regular with both antiseptic cream and a moisturiser and trying to pad the area.

have you had your heel in the same position too long or is it friction from an excersise.

that is a long time to have a sore have you seen your nurse/doctor?.

Hi Sue yes it appeared the day after the op in February due to friction I have seen three nurses the first one checked it when she removed the staples and said it was ok and threw out my dressing, the second at A&E the same week and hit the roof as it had spread and re dressed it the third back at the surgery said it would take a long time to heel as it was now a stage 2 and gave me alevyn pads to help it!

Was getting better but forgot to put one on the other night when I went to bed and bingo back it came so any suggestions very welcome as I now wear one sock holding it on perhaps I'll start a new fashion. !

I had something like that when I had my hip done and if I remember rightly put something under your lower leg and hang your foot over it when you are in bed. The contour pillows work well so that your knee is also in the right position. Are you sleeping on your side yet? That might help.

ohhhh peg its one thing after another???? ive got a flamin blister on me foot cos of the way im limping and ive got a funeral today so I dont no how im gonna get my shoe on I could cry!!!! cant wear sandals cos of the weather but was gonna say do what ive done pad it up with antiseptic cream and a dressing then put a pillow under your foot to keep it off the bed etc!!!! good luck hope it starts to heel lol lol soon x x

Get those special blister plasters - Compeed are the best but there are others - get them from chemist or supermarket. They are great for blisters as they protect it AND cushion it (and they are almost invisible so you won't see them over shoes.

it might be worth asking if they are any good for pressure sores?  With blisters you can keep it on for days till it's healed.

Certainly worth a try thanks girlies

Try tying a piece of foam with a hole cut out onto your heel. Pressure on your heel causes the blood supply to be cut off to that area - pressure area.  The pillow is a good idea but once you asleep your foot can off fall onto the mattress again.
