Hi had my thr on the 29th May I am a female and 46 years old im doing Ok just taking paracetamol and naproxen iwas on codeine 10 mg but I've finished then now. I keep waking up with the heel on my good leg hurting what can I do ? I put cream on it and a soft dressing gown to soften where it is. Also on my operated leg the front thigh muscle is very tight .what can anybody suggest ?
You can buy some pressure relieving heel pads from an on-line pharmacy which may help the heel. My booklet recommended two periods of 30 min where you lay completely flat in bed each day to stretch the muscles. You can also stand holding on to something solid and tap behind with your operated leg while standing upright. Repeat in groups of 10 several times a day. Try to stand as straight as you can. I was lucky and didn't get either problem but I heard the physios assuring patients that the muscles will stretch in time. Good luck
Hi thanks will order some heel pads I do my exercises the three times plus per dat I'm sure it just takes time.
If you're having physio they should give you exercises....google it if not there are lots of leaflets etc on line. My heels both hurt while lying flat but I put a small cushion under my calves to raise my heels off the bed. Physio told me to stop putting rolled up towel under mt knees which I was doing to get comfy in bed....to help stretch the front thigh muscle and same exercise as Ros described...it just takes time!!
My heels hurt before surgery because I found it was painful to turn on my bad hip, the left one. Also on the right side I have 3 ruptured discs and it was painful to sleep on that side, hence the back. However now that I'm 10 wks post op I can lay on either side and no more heel pain. When I would complain about heel pain no one understood. This will pass when you are able to turn again. Excuse the italics I must have hit a wrong key.
My heels hurt too. Best thing you can do is elevate. Put a pillow widthways under your knees AND another pillow widthways under your feet. Worked a treat for me. Did this at night and whenever I was lying down during the day.
