I'm new to this group. I'm 52 and for the last 18 months have been suffering with burning, prickling and strange sensations in my legs, feet, arms and hands. When I went to my Dr back when this started she said it was stress and anxiety. Now when it's not going away she says it's perimenopause. I have a few other symptons - very heavy regular periods, very tight muscles in my legs, feel very sad, no motivation, burning mouth, shaky feeling inside my body, legs goes like jelly, breast tenderness and stinging eyes. Is this perimenopause?
Sure sounds like it. I have experienced all of the above. Am 51. started having symptoms at 46, while periods were still going strong. They'll go away, and will be replaced by new symptoms, and then will come back, likely. It takes time to get used to this new way of being. xo
welcome to your worst nightmare!
Yes it sounds like it. I've had all those symptoms and I'm 43:(
Ask for FSH blood test which will test your hormonal levels. Ask for full bloods.
I was recently diagnosed after 3 years of going to the Drs
I hope you get better soon.....its a long horrible place.
we are all here so message any time
hi jane, it all sounds very familiar to me! ive just weaned off hrt on my doctors advice after being on for 2 years without much success
my main symptoms are headaches when i wake up feeling sick and dizzy dry burning eyes dry burning mouth muscle aches feeling low when i experience all of the above
i experience the symptoms on average 2/3 times a week, but can go 7/8 days feeling well and then it will come out of nowhere and last a couple of days
im definitely in the menopause having g not had a period for 16 months but the symptoms feel very much like pms symptoms but only worse
ive recently experienced prickling and burning in my arms and feet but that seems to have subsided and i dont suffer much with hot sweats, just occasionally but only mildly and usually in bed.
the hrt helped at first but then didnt seem to be after trying different combinations i decided to come off. so far im feeling all of the above.
i really do sympathise, im 53
Hi Jane, yes I get a kind of buzzing in my arms and hands a few times a week, always at night, followed by pins and needles. Must have been happening for 2 years now I guess. It started with one of my feet going completely numb at night and i would rub it and get terrible pins and needles. Then it moved to my hands and arms. Have seen different GPs and they dont know what it is. I'm 50 and been having lots of different peri symptoms since I was 45. Am heartily sick of it now. Low mood, no motivation, awful health anxiety, headaches, joint pain, weird head sensations, pin prick sensations all over body, uncomfortable down below, the list goes on and on. I believe the buzzing in my hands and arms is all hormone related, even if my GP doesnt. I did have a telephone consultation with a private meno specialist and she said it could well be hormonal and prescribed HRT. Unfortunately I only took it for 2 weeks as my anxiety went into overdrive and I stopped taking it. Sorry I have no answers but hope you feel better knowing you're not alone in what you're going through.
Thank you. Seeing the Dr this week so see what she says.
Thank you. It's good to know other women are experiencing similar symptoms and I'm not going crazy. Hot flushes and night sweats not started yet no doubt it's round the corner.
Thank you it's good to know other women are experiencing similar symptoms and I'm not going crazy. It's an absolute awful journey.
sounds just like what i feel. i would say periomenopause it is.
ive had joint pain daily for about 6 months pretty much constant but some days really painful do any of feel it like a burning/stinging at the backs of your knees & elbows? its really worrying me now, also had the same sensations in my lower back too really starting to question if this can be hormones? had all of your other symptons to jane but my health anxiety is getting the better of me tonight my back & right knee are on fire
Oh my golly I can't believe I'm actually speaking with someone who has the same. I feel your pain it's awful. I have the exactly the same. Do you feel like you want to stretch your legs? I've been fine all day but on fire now in the evening. I have noticed it's worse the week before and week of my period. I've had bloods done and spoke with Dr today and she says everything is fine. Ask about a hormone test but she said they weren't accurate. A friend said to me it will pass but for how long??? Good to speak with you.
OMG Jane are you my secret twin! my period is due next week & its certainly been worse the last few days, im in bed stretching my legs & moving my feet to try to ease the weird burning. also my lower back is burning now, defo worse when i sit for too long. i had a full blood count done 6 months ago which was fine, youre right my doc wouldnt do a hormone blood test because the levels change hourly/daily. i hope it passes soon too sending a hug x
hi Jane - Well, i have posted on this forum so often its sort of comical - i think i have had every strange Symptom known - I am kind of an odd case, i am post menopause 8 years, but really didnt start experiencing my "bad" symptoms until about 4 years ago - i suffered with insomnia in peri & some flushing sweats, but nothing like what came in post menopause - i have had extreme tingling/burning body parts, anxiety off the charts, doom & gloom, shortness of breath, extreme joint, tendon, ligament, muscle aches, dizziness, rosacea, high blood pressure, extreme hot flashes, increased allergies, - you name it & i think i have had it - i think i have also been to every specialist, endocrinologist, rhematologist, orthopedist, naturopath, holistic chiropractor, acunpunturist, primary care, cardiologist & nobody can give me definitive answers - i have finally chalked it all up to the lack of hormones - By far, the fact that my legs are so weak & hurt so much is the most debilitating for me - i have also chalked up many of my symptoms to anxiety (anxiety can also cause many of these same symptoms) i do believe our low hormones affect every system in our body - i wish you luck in your menopause journey & hope we can all find an end to our symptoms soon
Aww mercy what a journey you've had Debra it's just not fair. I think it's the fact I still have regular periods that got me worried it was maybe something else but after reading some of these comments then it's probably peri. Yes I agree it's the legs that's the worst and that's what causes the anxiety. Thank you for your reply and take care.x
Hi Jane Just wanted to say I am with you with the strange sensations:-(( I have a pricking feeling in my legs most days together with other symptoms. I get weird heads ( feel slightly drunk) now & then aches in arms, heavy legs & generally do not feel right. I also get tingling in different areas of my face now and then too. My symptoms seem bizarre. This has been going on for 3 years & I have seen 3 Neurologists over this time. They have all reassured me nothing sinister or Neurological going on thankfully. I truly believe its Menopause related Jane as I'm 53 and very slowly feel I'm turning a corner now. I have felt so reassured over the years reading this forum and I hope this post reassures you too. kind regards
Hi Jane, I am new to this group and so glad I joined. You and lots of others have describe what I am experiencing right now. I am 49 and so far have had Xrays, MRI, Blood tests, many doctor consultations and paid to speak to a Neurologist but so far nobody can tell me what is going on, apart from I have Bilateral Carpal Tunnel.
My symptoms started with extreme pain in my right wrist, moved to my left wrist then both wrists at same time. The pins and needles in both hands and arms and got worse at night, still happening. My arms go numb in bed and always feel hot and throbbing even through the day. I have a sore back, lower thoracic area, right side but MRI scan showed nothing sinnister and MS has been ruled out.
My legs started to feel weak and could hardly walk for approximately 2 weeks, they went very weak and shakey, muscle cramps in calves, thighs and buttocks and now my feet are hot throbbing and have heel pain. My legs burn at night when I go to bed, it almost feels like sunburn. I did have muscles twitching all over my body, mostly at night but this is easing off now. I do not sleep, my periods are irregular (I am two weeks late again this month and still waiting). I get extremely irritate quickly, I swear at everything, cannot be bothered with people, cry at stupid things and get very anxious. The only good thing is I have lost 1..5 stones over the past 6 months.
I get extremely worried that there maybe something seriously wrong with me but Neurologist advised against paying for any extra tests as he cannot see anything neurologically wrong with me.
My doctor didn't even answer me when I asked if all my symptoms could be hormone related. He prescribed me antidepressants because I told him I was very anxious but I am reluctant to take them as I really think HRT is what I need.
Reading everyone's comments from this group settles my mind a little. Thank You.
Thank you for the reassurance their are other women experiencing similar symptoms. It can be very worrying. The lastest is sensitive skin to touch. Is that Peri as well?
Us women have so much to go through and it is reassuring to know other women suffer with similar symptoms. My Dr keeps saying it's anxiety and won't refer me to a neurologist. The latest is sensitive skin to touch. I sometimes feel I'm never away from the Dr they must be fed up with me. Thanks again and take care.
thank god you do not have issues about stomach which i have currently ..hell experience
