I just started wearing eyeglasses with prisms in them.....I have been wearing glasses for years...I use progression but now I was told I have a slight vertical imbalance........can wearing prism glasses cause dizziness and how long does it take to get use to them.....I went to see Dr. because of the dizziness.......Anyone know?????
HI Rita,
I think we have spoken before. I also go to Dr. Cheryl. It may take a week or 2 to get use to them. Let her know if it takes longer. At worst maybe just go back to your old glasses if it is only a slight problem you are having.
Hello Rita.....I read your post and I need to ask how often did you have dizziness and was it constant ? Did you have it no matter what you did ? Also, did you have any other symptoms like with your vision or eyes ?
I am butting in here, Michelle! I have had constant imbalance whenever I move my head, and also have visual symptoms that I feel are causing this. I see trails behind lights if I move my head when they are in my field of vision, and also images that do not stay in the center of my retina when I move my head. No one really knows what this is from, but my doctors thinks it's related to the brain. He said this usually occurs after taking a hallucinogen(!) which I never did. Could be miscommunication between my eyes and brain. He put me on gabapentin this week to see it it helps. I have it 24/7. What symptoms do you have?
Hello Dee....I have dizziness everyday when I stand, sit and I am unbalanced and dizzy while walking . I have had a brain MRI which was clear and seen an ENT Dr last year who said all was clear except for having hearing loss in both ears so not sure where the dizziness is coming from...I am going to see an otolaryngologist next month to have some better testing on my ears done and I also plan to have my eyes checked too...
The reason Rita and I have prisms in our glasses is because we have vertical heterophoria. Look it up and see if the symptoms match what you feel. Not any doctor can test you for this, so if you think you have it remember to ask if the doctor knows what it is and can they test you for it.
I looked up symptoms of vertical heterophoria and I have most of the symptoms....
Do you live in the states? It might be worth finding a doctor and getting it checked out.
If you can do get it checked out
Hi Dee.....I was on gabapentin for 6 months 300 mg for one month and 400 mg for the other 5....you can NOT just stop taking it you must be tapered off........This drug is not a great drug...everyone is different but be prepared for dizziness and lots of tiredness until your body gets use to it ...goggle the drug.......I tapered off to 100 mg every other day and then all hell broke out...back to 100 mg everyday...Now this may Not happen to you....I took it for MAV they also use it for nerve pain.........How much are you taking????? It takes like 3 to 4 weeks to work.........
Hello...no I am not dizzy all the time at all...but I still get dizzy...and I feel a little off...like off balance???? not like I am going to fall...can't really explain it.........I did wear glasses prior..progressive......And having a big problem wearing glasses all day long!!!!!! Its like I need to give my eyes a break lol lol It feels like they are being retrained
Yes I live in the states and found an eye Dr that will test for that so will make an appt. Thanks.
I will definitely get it checked out . Thanks
Good luck, I hope it fixes your issues. Let us know.
Thanks and I will keep you all posted....
Great...hope it works out
The neuro said I could try it if I watned... I am supposed to start taking 100mg 3x a day, then increase the dose to 600 mg/day. I am not going to take it until I try a few other things like Tai Chi and ping pong. All I need is MORE dizziness! What is it supposed to do: All I read when I googled is that it is used for nerve pain, to prevent seizures, and for anxiet, none of which I have. So confused about if there is anything that lessens or treats the feeling of off-balance. So many different opinions.
So sorry it took me awhile to get back to you...was real busy today.......yes you have read correctly........and the withdrawals are not great either.......I was told even though it doesnt say it is that it is also good for MAV.........some people have a hard time with it while others it doesnt bother them.........i am now on 100 mg a day...dr wants me on it for one month and then we will try again.....it was horrible...OMG the headaches..dizziness.....I hope I could get off this crap....now I am not getting any withdrawal the other med I am taking is much stronger...God need to help me.......going to see if I can drop down to 400 from 500 ..........need to go for another blood test my white cell counts was very slightly off........next dr appt is april 7........that could be done to meds...or a slight virus in my system...trying not to worry
