Please discard that message; I´ve got already all the answers about the matter.
Good questions! I'm going to be talking to Dr. Bagla about my upcoming PAE and will ask him about these possible problems. Dr. Bagla, as you probably know, has done more of these proceudures than anyone else in the US. I've already had one conversation with him and raised the issue of the median lobe. His answer: "I don't know where the belief that median lobe size matters comes from, but it's not an issue." Will get back to you on the other issues once I've had a chance to talk to him sometime in the next few weeks.
Don30615, don´t you worry. I got all my answers from Dr. Pisco (he mades 1000 PAEs recently). He´s the most kind person I´ve met. There will be no problems doing a PAE. I´m refreshed and peaceful. Will put all in the hands of God and His mercy.
Best of luck to you. Your prostate is in good hands.
I'd be curious to know how Dr. Pisco answered your questions, if you'd care to share that information.
Just do a search for "Dr. João Martins Pisco", as we are not allowed to share emais here. Dr. Pisco is very busy, has a lot of work to do, and maybe he takes a little bit more to reply at you, but be patient and you´ll be rewarded.
I suggest you call an experienced doc in pae like dr Bagla bc there are varying expertise and that's why I went to him.
You could definitely add allergic reaction to the beads used for the embolization. Which causes irreversible damage!
Could you please elaborate the word "beads". Sorry my english is poor.
I was going to have PAE, but even though a scan prior to the op showed all my arteries to be accessible, during the procedure it was found that the main artery to my prostate also fed my bladder & I was told it was not possible to embolize without also blocking the blood flow to the bladder which would result in long term damage to my bladder. The embolization therefore did not go ahead.
I would very interested to know of anyone else who has had a similar problem/result. After having spent 2 yrs trying to get this done I was of course extremely disappointed.
Which type of scan prior to the procedure do you have? An special MRI?
mpMRI scan.
Yes sir they use a specially made polymer bead, which basically stops up the arteries. I had a bad allergic reaction to them. And unfortunately once they are inside of the prostate and arteries they are permanent.
You can have it with absorbable beads as well. Speak with dr bagla about that. What type of beads did you have it with?
If the beads are absorbable does this mean that they will only work for a limited time until they are absorbed?
Here is what was used during my peocedure, which has caused me so much pain and discomfort over the last year.
porcine gel foam--arterial
Embosphere microsperes (tris-acry gel sspheres)--arterial
I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience with PAE, Joe. Where dod yoiu have the procedure performed, and what went wrong?
Hey Don within an hour or waking from the procedure. I broke out with a bad rash from my neck down. They immediatly called in a dermatologist specialist, and he gave me several drugs, that slowed it down,. But by 7pm that night areas of my skin were coming off in pieces. They sent me on home.
Over the next 6 months my prostate swelled up and was extremly painful, and the lesions on my skin would not heal. I took huge doses of prednisone off and on, and finally took it for 2 months straight one time. Its been a year and 2 months now, and I still have scars from the lesions about the size of a quarter all over my torso, Prostate is very sensitive, and my ejaculations (when I try it) are very painful.
The Docs including the PAE doc, and my local dermatologist said at the time it was a fixed drug eruption and considering how long it has lasted the reaction could only be to the beads. Any other medication that was used would have long since cleared my system.
I had mine done at UNC.
I winder if they can test you to see if you're allergic to the beads
My local dermatologist says that he had researched doing that and could not really find a viable option.
It would sure be good to know 100 for sure
There have been several other instances of reactions to these embolizing agents.
