Hi, twice a week (while playing tennis) I am wearing Acuvue Moist Daily contact lenses.
My power is D -0.5 in both eyes and CYL -1.25 with axis 80 and 120. After inserting the lenses I can feel my eyes becoming dry. After about an hour the lenses are stuck to my eyes and I can't see well due to my astigmatism. At this point, the lenses are uncomfortable to wear and I tend to blink a lot. Eye drops (Vizulize Dry Eye Drops, 0.1% Sodium Hyaluronate) only provide a short relief. After the match, I can't wait to remove the contacts.
I don't wear glasses except when driving. I tried playing tennis with my glasses on but I don't like it eighter because on contact I can see the ball below the rim.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. To the contact lens wearers out there: Can you recommend a different brand or different eye drops? Thanks a lot.
Hi Dan,
First of all are you prescribed toric lenses?
The power in your lenses is very low although the degree of astigmatism is edging up a bit.
Having said that,if you are using torics, you may want to consider trialling spherical lenses as you may well find that they work just as well for you but they will be cheaper and will remove a layer of complication relating to orientation of the toric lens.
Note i am not an opthalmic professional but have worn contacts for many years. I have a degree of astigmatism similar to yours but have never worn torics.
Hi Mancman, thanks for taking the time to reply. Yes, I was prescribed toric lenses and glasses. I think it is the combination of low power + astigmatism but when I look at a distant object I can see the main image and another one just next to it. When trying to read e.g. road signs the letters overlap and I have to squint to read properly.
I can talk to an optometrist about spherical lenses. Like you say they are easier to fit, cheaper, and maybe more comfortable to wear.
