Problems with Vivity lens

Hi! I had cataract surgery a month ago and chose the Vivity lens after a lot of research. I also know that no artificial lens is going to give perfect vision But, my experience with Vivity is very different than what I expected so I think something is wrong and wanted to ask if anyone here has had a similar reaction. I can see GREAT close up -- reading, computer, etc is wonderful. Like 20/20 wonderful. However, anything over ~8 feet from me is blurry. Watching TV with subtitles is impossible. Street signs are blurry, trees are blurry -- almost like I'm seeing double with overlapping letters. I'm getting bad headaches and it's worse in one eye....although I'm also noticing it in the other eye as time goes by. I've complained about the blurriness since day one of post op, but that was to be expected. My surgeon's assistant (who I saw for the one month follow up) wants to wait another 4-5 weeks to see if my vision gets better on its own before seeing the surgeon to discuss the need for a "re-touch", but the headaches are getting worse and I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Vivity is expected to have near blurriness---not mid or far. Has anyone here with Vivity also had problems with distance and mid range blurriness? If so, did it clear up on its own after a couple of months? Or did you need intervention? Thanks for your help.

From what you describe it would seem that your surgeon may have missed on the power calculation and you have a lens power that has left you myopic in both eyes. The best thing you can do to determine where you stand is to get a full refraction test by an independent optometrist. This is the kind of test you would get for an eyeglass prescription. What you want to know is what eyeglass prescription would be needed to correct your vision, and if there is any astigmatism. Are you seeing double vision with each individual eye or only when you use both eyes? If you see double vision with an individual eye then it can be uncorrected or induced astigmatism. I have that issue with one eye.

If your problem is too much myopia then it may not be necessary to get a change in both eyes. With the Vivity being about -1.0 D myopic in the non-dominant eye may be useful providing you have full distance correction in the dominant eye. So, you may only need an adjustment in the dominant eye, not both.

Where I am it is normal to get a 24 hour check of each eye, then a 3 week check, and then a final 6 week check. The 3 week check gives you a pretty good idea where you stand. If you are significantly off at 3 weeks that does not look good. It may improve slightly after that, but probably not much based on my experience.
