Progressing

Hello fellow hipsters!! yesterday I saw the surgeon again after almost 4 weeks of him releasing me to bear weight on my operated leg. good news, hip is doing very well and he has progressed me to start doing outpatient therapy and released me to drive. I have bursitis, a pretty significant limp, tendinitis and weaknesses so am still needing the use of one crutch. Also the IT band needs work. All due because of lengthening my leg, a long period of non weight bearing and reattaching the butt muscles. Am still quite sore and that is starting to bug me some. Not quite ready to be on cane. He did show me how to bend over, how to bend over and pick something up off the floor and when sitting how far I can bend over and how to do that. As some of you all know I have been really really depressed but I've been managing to go outside on my own walk up and down the sidewalk getting some much-needed sun managing to go out with the family to dinner 🍴. My only thing is I've been so scared of how I sit, what chair to get into, that I kind of have been babying myself!! but after yesterday's appointment I'm feeling a little more confident and dr feels confident in me moving more. I need to anyways, I'm still pretty stiff and tight. So here's hoping the out patient therapy will help!! My depression is not so bad anymore. I really was at a low point. Now to start a new chapter with this hip! Dr says to give him 6 weeks to see improvement!! I'll see him again in 3 weeks to see how I'm progressing! Thank you all for your support, advice and prayers. It's been a long, slow and difficult road but I'm getting there! Thank you!! πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—

Wow Linda you've been through the mill. I'm full of admiration for the way you're battling on -you're a fine example to us all. Your uncertainty is understandable, but it sounds like you're winning.

Well done and thanks for sharing..

Rob

Hi Linda

I am week 9 post bilateral. You said your consultant showed you how to pick something off the floor....how far post op are you? I am wondering when I will be able to reach my own feet as I would like to be able to cut my own toenails.

Happy healing

DeeAnne

Hi DeeAnne.

I posted yesterday asking this question. It's the thing I find most frustrating. I thought 6 weeks but the general consensus seems to be 12 weeks so you are not too far off. It can be a real risk of dislocation so not worth rushing it.

So today ordered another grab stick as I seem to be really good at dropping things. And if I'm down stairs you can bet the grabber is upstairs. Oh the joys of recovery !

Xxx

Really sounds like you're over the worst.

Woohoo!  Go girl!  Great newsπŸ™‚πŸ˜€

Great news Linda, you are the otherside of the recovery ahead... keep exercising and you will come on in leaps and bounds.   But remember do not overdo things.  You will still have bad days.

Wow well done Linda I am impressed. I am 11 days in and can only dream of such things so glad to see a positive progession .. I am sure it's just on and upwards from here x

Well done Linda, really pleased it's all going well.

Thanks!! Oh I know Elaine! Dr still has hip precautions when I go to therapy. We want to stay safe!!

Thank you Hazel! It has not been easygoing tho. But I'm getting there.

Wishing you all the best in your recovery!! πŸ€—πŸ€—

Thanks Judith! Still have a ways to go tho!! πŸ™‚

Thank you 😊

Well we're all rooting for you, onwards and upwards.

Yes and no. Having tendinitis and bursitis is going to take some work to get through. He says to give him 6 weeks and now that I can go to out patient therapy im hoping we can get this joint moving and these muscles strong πŸ’ͺ🏽!! πŸ€“

I'm 10 weeks! As for cutting toenails well I'm still having issues in bending my knee. My thigh is so tight so that's something i have to work on. Wishing you a speedy recovery! πŸ€“

Thank you Rob. That's very nice of you to say!! It has been a rough road and I'm still on it but I'm seeing progress and thank God! πŸ€“

hi linda, what great news about your hip - the bursitis and tendinitus suck ... I had bursitis too in my old new hip (1st one) - sounds like your doctor is taking good care of you - I understand your frustration and always a little fear in the background - but you are dooing good - take your walks, do your exercises and doing the best you can is all you can do --- be kind to yourself , okay - your body is working hard -I know it sound silly but take a cushion with you when you somewhere just in case the chairs are too low .... love, light and healing big warm hugrenee

Thank you Renee!! Yea I will take a cushion. Most of time I take wheelchair cause it's right height. Only thing is it is a pain to lug around. But my husband has been so good to me and will do anything to keep me safe, comfortable and happy 😊. I'm trying real hard not to fall back into depression. Right now all my muscles are bothering me. From the butt to the thigh! Next week I start out patient therapy!
