Prolapse, rectocele and cystocele repair.

Hi, does anyone know if a different fabric to the metal mesh can be used in the above OP? I'm allergic to metals and polyester type fabrics. It's my third time, at 72 I'd hoped not to need this done again. I also have 2 ovarian cysts which may have to be removed also. Any info would be very much appreciated. Thanks Ellie UK

I had cystocele repair 5 weeks ago and my doctor used a human or animal cadaver tissue called A Cell.  So far so good.

Ellie,

i had both r and s done 5 weeks ago and do not have mesh or similar but stitches for both. I know this because I made careful inquiry beforehand. I'm 76 and am in Australia.

I'm recovering well. best wishes to you - third time lucky? I hope so.

I've read of animal based implants used successfully Ellie.

Please don't worry ellie no consultant is going to implant anything into your body that you are allergic to. There are so many options these days. Urogynaecologists are currently doing trials on a new way of repairing a prolapse where recovery time is shortened (driving after 2 weeks) and there's no need for any types of mesh.

Many thanks to all of you. Previous two times I had no mesh or anything but sling made from my own skin! lol  After 12 years it seems nature has again taken it's course and 'things' are descending again causing lots of backache and abdominal aches too. The cysts appear to be 'simple' ones but have to have more examinations by a gynea surgeon. First available appointment, 13 Jan 2016! At least my GP doesn't think it serious so yes, 3rd time lucky hopefully. Thanks again, Ellie UK
