Prolapsed disc

I've had back pain on and off for 20 years. 4 months ago it came back with a vengance. MRI scan clearly shows the prolapse. I'm in a real dilema.

Half of me wants the surgery to remove the prolapse but the other half says no. I've been having physio twice a week for the past couple of months but with very little progress. I've also had osteopathic treatment on and off for years.

I can have the operation next week so need to make up my mind fast. The main thing holding me back is I can't find much information on the long term effects of surgery & how long I may take to recover. Also does anyone out there who has had the surgery have any negatives to pass on i.e. would you do it again??

Steve

Hi Steve,

I'm sorry to say I don't have any experiences to share as I am pretty much in the same boat re the surgery decision.

I'd be interested to hear others opinions too.

:D Steve, hi I too know what your going through and I contemplated the op for a while as I paid privately as there was a 12mth wait.In the end it was simple I wanted my life back for me and my kids. I did have a slight relapse 4 weeks after the op and I had to go back in for scan and nerve block but dare I say touch wood I'm back at work, shopping, and playing with my kids without pain or the sleepless nights. Re long term effects I have been advised it weakens your back but the prolapse has already done that.I hope things get better soon. Regards Jazzy

Hello again one thing I would recommend is if you haven't already tried it I would go for the nerve block first before op to see if this can sort things out thus preventing you from having to have op.Take care Jazzy
