Prometrium

Hello ladies!

Started Prometrium 100 mg oral last week and no side effects really, have felt more 'even steven' emotionally, so that is good but having some pretty bad stomach cramps. I thought the cramps were due to some meat we cooked that was two days old, but it smelled fine when I cooked it. But I first noticed the cramp after I sampled it. I had eaten a HoHo (junk food) at the same time, which I don't normally eat a lot of, too. Later we had the meat for dinner, and later I had some vodka with grape juice. If the cramping was due to the meat, or junk food, or vodka, why would I still be having cramps three days later? My husband didn't get any cramps after eating the meat.

If it's the Prometrium causing the cramps, I'm wondering if the pill can be inserted vaginally? It's a little orange, round pill. I've heard of women getting upset stomach on Prometrium and was thankful I wasn't really having any symptoms, then this cramping started.

I also just started Vivelle, the estrogen patch, and have high hopes for that.

Hi Julie, yes promethium can be used vaginally.  BUT PLEASE NOTE that doing it vaginally is a whole different ball game as it goes directly into your system, vs going through your liver first.  So doing 100 mg of vaginal progesterone is a huge increase over taking a 100mg oral pill.  Prometruim capsules can be opened and smaller amounts can be used vaginally.  I used empty capsules to squeeze a portion of the Prometrium into, to insert vaginally.

Omigosh, you made me laugh out loud! If I ate old meat, hohos, and grape juice I’d probably be running to the bathroom! But I don’t think you should still have cramping three days later from that. It’s most likely the progesterone. Why don’t you try cream instead?

I decided to stop it and return to using a cream, and found one with 7-keto dhea in it at health food store. And guess what? No more cramps, so it was the Prometrirum, not the ho hos, meat or vodka!

Thanks for your suggestion. I decided to stop using it and return to using a cream, and found one with 7-keto dhea in it at health food store. No more cramps, so it was the Prometrirum, not the ho hos, meat or vodka!

I’m happy you figured it out.

Now to work on your diet..

Hahahahaha!!!
