Hello,
I just started taking propanolol yesterday after starting sertraline for almost 3 weeks and having very bad side effects (lots of stressful racing thoughts). I'm on 10mg 3x a day. Of course, I'm only on day 2 of taking them and I've only taken 1 so far today, but about how long did they take to fully start working for you? My racing heart and shaking has slowed down for the most part, the racing thoughts to, but not fully. I still find myself fidgety. I'm hoping they'll fully kick in soon so I can relax and finally get back to normal.
Takes anywhere from 30 min to an hour to feel the full effects of the propranolol. 10 mg is a VERY VERY low dose, so if you're not getting rid of the anxiety completely it may just be that you need a little higher dose.
Yeah, I thought it was low. Since I'm only on day 2 I wasn't sure if I should call to see if they can up it or if I should wait it out a bit.
Try the low dose for a week and then call if you are still jittery. It is a very mild drug. Increasing it a little won't hurt you. I've been on it for 7 months and it's changed my life.
That's what I'm hoping for. I was doing pretty good then the NP upped my sertraline from 25mg to 100mg within 6 days and I have been so miserable. Constant intense anxiety about dying like all day long. It has taken the heart racing and shaking away for the most part, but now I just feel sick and sweaty. I just gave them a call though to see if I can start taking 20mg 3x a day to see if that helps because this is terrible.
I was put on propranalol a week ago for severe panic attacks and anxiety. My dosage was 10mg 3 times a day but I was a bit afraid to take 'that much' as I had never taken anything before.
The first day I took half a tablet and felt a lot calmer within an hour.
I then plucked up the courage to take 1x10mg first thing in the morning and another about 1pm. This seems to work well for me. They are very calming. And if neccessary I would be able to take another in the early evening if I felt panicky or anxious but have not had the need to as yet.
They have changed my life within a week. No side effects since the first day when I was a bit cold and muzzy but I think that was anxiety.
Good luck.
Hi I've been on them for 8 years or so for panic attacks and I swear by them. You've got to understand what they do; they stop the body pumping adrenalin round the body in stressful situations. I swear by them. I don't have to take every day so they are mild as mentioned before. I take when I'm going out to an event or something just as a safety measure. Big filmstars take them to prevent stage fright. They are amazing in my opinion.
Yeah they do seem to be working for that so far but I'm still pretty shakey. Thanks to the Zoloft I've been having been intense all day long anxiety/panic and so I'm still so anxious. I'm hoping they'll start working better soon.
I'm glad to hear they're working better after a week. I'm still having pretty intense anxiety but again only on day 2 and have only had one today. Hoping for some relief soon. They don't want me to up it and to just wait it out.
Did you just start taking the Zoloft or have you been taking it for a while?
I started the Zoloft about 3 weeks ago now. 2 weeks ago is when this horrible anxiety started bc they upped me way too fast.
I had a lot of problems with Zoloft. They took me off of it and put me only on Propranolol and that fixed everything.
Yeah, I'm getting to the 4 week mark pretty soon and if things aren't better I'm going to get off of it. None of this crap started until I started the Zoloft.
Hi richardvilla, could I ask if you suffer any side effects when you take them as and when.? I took these tablets 10mg x3 daily and got over the bad side effects in the first week. I then had great results for a two week period but then the doctor told me to only take as and when not continually I didnt take another for a week after that visit and was completely back to normal. No tablets, no anxiety ,no side effedts .On the 7th day I took one as I had anxiety and all the side effects were back. I feel im left either managing my anxiety on my own or having side effects to deal with if I take them when I need them. How is it for you? I did try to start a seperate discussion asking this but sadly no responses. Sorry for hijacking you on this thread!! Ali x
