Hi

I've been on PTU for nearly 3 weeks now as i had a bad reaction to carbimazole so had to stop that. I'm actually starting to feel a bit better from my hyperthyroid symptoms but I have very itchy legs and am now getting a rash on both legs below the knee. Am taking an LA antihistamine (Boots hayfever) which is helping but I was woken up in the night with the itching. The packet insert says to tell the doctor if you get a rash but of course it's now a long holiday weekend and in any case I have an appointment with my GP a week on Monday. Is there anyone else who has had the same thing and is it important? There don't seem to be many people on the discussions taking PTU as most seem to manage on carbimazole so I feel a bit alone!

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I've just been prescribed this today too after suffering an allergic reaction to Carbimazole (was taking for two months). I don't know when you posted this, but I'd love to know how you are going on with it? It's a scary list of side effects!

Hi AgW yes that  the same as me i had a bad reaction when i was taking Carbimazole.So now am on PTU only been on them for 2 weeks so dont feel any diiferant yet.

Just to let you know I got off PTU as quickly as I could because of concerns about side effects. I had RAI about 2.5 years ago. It took a few months to sort out the right dose of levothyroxine but I've now been stable for over 2 years and feel normal.
