Hi everyone i got told i have over active thyroid about 8 weeks ago and am on Propylthiouracil had my bloods taken yesterday and i got a call off the doctors today to say i have to have another on in 2 weeks as my liver fuction was slightly not right as this ever happened to anyone else.
I have been on propylthiouracil for 4 years and get my liver function done quite often. This drug has been known to cause liver problems, so the doctors will keep an eye on your tests. Don't worry too much but if you get a severe itching or yellowing of your skin or eyes I would suggest you go to emergency. Why did they give you this instead of carbimazole? What dose are you on? I started on 200mg daily and over the years tapered down to 100mg. I don't have Graves though.

Hi Jeanette yes they did try me on Carbimazole but i come out in big red soe rashes all on my neck line.Am on 100mg a day i take 2 pills one morninf=g and one at night.What do you hav do you have over active thyroid.They told me i will be on this for 12mths xxx
I take the same dose as you now days. I have hyperthyroidism with thyroiditis and a multi nodular goiter. This has been going on for 7 years ever since I was given a steroid shot for allergies. I decided not to have a thyroidectomy as doctors say there is an underlying problem as my symptoms are bad. I decided to get tested for Lyme disease and it came out positive so that may be why I'm so ill. Weird test results with cysts everywhere.
Anyway keep an eye on the liver function. If it doesn't get better you will have to come off propylthiouracil and kill the thyroid off.
