Prostate Cancer & BPH - Irreversersible Electroporation (IRE) - Nanoknife

Does anyone know or have any experience of IRE (Nanoknife). It has been used to destroy Prostate Cancer cells but could it be used to relieve BPH?

In mid 2014, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and investigated this treatment along with several others. At that time, the doctor who had performed the majority of IRE procedures was in my area (Atlanta). I started seeing him and discussed this treatment with him over the course of several months. During that time he stopped performing IREs.  He told me there were better options with fewer problems available (FLA being the primary focal therapy, though he did not perform them as he is a urologist).  IRE is not a focal therapy like FLA - at that time the procedure was done on at least half the gland and many times, the entire gland depending on the patient's diagnosis.

From the information I gathered - I removed IRE as one of my options for treatment. I continue on AS, getting annual MRIs and if/when the need arises OR for BPH, FLA is my 'Plan A'.

Tim, thanks that's useful info. It would appear IRE has been around for a while & you have to have a general anaesthetic & muscle relax relaxants for the procedure so much more complicated.

Peter.

Hey Peter  Going to have to look that up and see if there is any trails on the internet.  That is how they found out that FLA was good for bph.  I will let you go.  Have trouble sleeping at night so it will give me something to do  Ken
