Hi, I have been having problems over the past few months where I am having to stand up to be able to pass urine.
There are times when it actually stings while passing urine, I have previously put this down to the high dosage of prescribed Morphine.
I am concerned that this might not be the case as I'm aware that as men get older they can have prostrate problems.
I am now 56 in December and I'm hoping someone will be able to offer me some advice!
The problem you are referring to could be caused by one of several issues. Find a reputable urologist and let him/her discover the reason for your symptoms and then discuss treatment. These forums are great for support, but leave the diagnosing to the professionals.

As already stated, pain killers like morphine can make it more difficult to pass urine. That said, if you're noticing a difference at the same dosage, it could also be a growing obstructive prostate and/or the beginning of a urinary tract infection. If you're not already seeing a urologist, now might be the time to go. Among other things, you want the doctor to measure your post volume residual (PVR) to make sure you're not retaining too much urine and therefore stretching the bladder and possibly compromising kidney function.

Yes that happen when we get older. But the best thing you need to do is go see a Urologist and have some test. You may have a prostate infection. You need to have it cleared up so it does not cause any more problems Ken
Good advice. Just go to the urologist sooner rather than later. As mentioned, it could be a host of things. Urologists may not know precisely what your situation is until they eliminate some things. It's usually a bit of a process to find out what exactly is going on.
