Proximal Humerus Fracture - Recovery

Just over a month ago I broke my upper right arm in a diabetic seizure (long story so I won't get into details of the seizure). It was a 4 part fracture and so I now have a plate. What I would like to know is what kind of recovery I could expect regarding range of motion, specifically with the plate being where it is; will it get in the way or am I able to reach (almost) full range of motion through physiotherapy even with the plate in my arm.

I am seeing a Physio and muscle recovery seems to be going quite well.

I had a similar injury beginning of May last year, although mine was fixed with 4 metal rods.  It’s hard work but with good physio and  home exercises you will get there.  Humerus fractures are among the most difficult to heal.  I’ve had problems straightening my arm, swollen fingers, stiff shoulder etc.,.  Now? I’m driving, working (nurse) and arm is almost 100%.  You will get there eventually too but much of your recovery will be down to you and the amount of effort you put in.  Good luck!

Sounds good.  Keep up the good work!  Good luck!

Hi valhalla,

Great efforts. Every injury takes some time to recover, so it is important to deal with the issue patiently.

Thanks..
